Uncertain.....

Good Friday Morning,

I'm uncertain as to whither these can be answered on this forum or not. But, here
goes.....

I'm barely familiar with the Computer Aided scanner radio programs that control
the scanner. I do know that those programs can be used to load and unload the
different frequencies and talk groups you can "program" into the scanner.

Now, two questions:

#1. Can any of these "Cat" programs, "log" not only the frequency (on scan) of the
station, but the cw ID as well? As I'm to understand, there are several different
ways that each radio in the system "identifies", by sending a "data burst". Now, I'm
NOT at all interested as to which vehicle sent it, just the Base system's ID...KKR-877,
say for instance.

#2. Do any of these "Cat" programs also "decode" the PL tones being sent to "open"
radios and either display them (ie. "186.2") or "log" them as part of the data it
collects?

Why would I want to know the PL tone? Well, I'm curious, have no sinister plot,
but I've noticed on some of the listings on Radio Reference, they are listed.

I know there were devices out there at one time that would "read" the touchtone
tones, but I have no desire to listen to folks *private* conversations. When I run
across one of those channels, I block it. SOMETIMES the language has gotten
rather "salty" and they think no one can "hear" them, LOL!

The way i understand your questions there are indeed programs that will do what you want. I don't know which scanner you have so i can't direct you in the right direction, but there are programs that should do both of those things depending on the scanner.
