Trunk lip mount location

The center would provide you with a better ground plane, the only consideration i would make is whether you can still open the trunk and not bend the antenna if mounted in the center. I had to opt for the side on my car for the reason mentioned above.

Same here. Also, because of the lines of my car, the antenna isn't perfectly vertical. For that reason, I'm thinking of going back to the magnet mount on the roof.

I had the same problem with my lip mount HAM antenna. It angled out to the side because of the curve of the trunk lid. I was able shim the mount enough to get the antenna almost vertical.
