I have two AudioVox GMRS/FRS walkie-talkies.

I noticed, but I don't know if it works far away, if I have one on say Ch. 8 and the other on Ch. 9, they don't sound great, but they still talk to each other. Is it just because the frequencies are so close together and they walkie-talkies are so close together? This also works with 6 and 7.

How close together do you have the radios? If they are sitting within a few of feet of each other then the answer is most likely yes.

This is true for nearly all radios. When you are near the radiation source, the power has not had time to disipate and it can easily overload the circuit. Take a couple of CB radios and place them right next to each other. Adjacent channels will in all likely hood be overloaded.

This is also part of the reason for the rebanding. Interference between some trunked systems when near certain cell towers.
