Two Die in I-10 Collision West of Willcox
On March 5, at about 11:26 a.m., a two-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate10, 12 miles west of Willcox, Arizona. Seth Baker, 25, of Glendale, Arizona died at the scene when the 14 foot Penske box truck he was driving collided with a crane. Also deceased was his passenger Benny Thompson, 27, of Glendale, Arizona. The driver of the crane, 54- year- old David Garcia of Tucson was not injured in the collision.
The collision occurred when the driver of the box truck swerved into the far left traffic lane to pass the slower moving crane. The box truck went partially off the road into the median where the driver overcorrected coming back across the road and hit the crane. The box truck then rolled and the crane drove over it. At some point the box truck caught fire with the two occupants trapped inside.
The box truck was loaded with new furniture and had just completed a delivery in Safford. The box truck was contracted by D&M Transportation of Phoenix.
