Sorry, I don't mean to clutter this brand new sticky up, but can we clarify what qualifies as a major event? Is this thread for scanner club meetings, or airshows, or breaking news events or what?
BTW I finally went out and got the new SWFD (needed it so I can access those updates!) Love the book, but is there any way the spiral binding can return in the next version? If cost was the deciding factor, I'd gladly pay a buck or two more for the spiral binding.
Thanks,

I started this sticky at the off-list request of Joe Sly from Chandler. He didn't clarify what exactly he envisioned it for, but it was his second request to me, so I went ahead and created it, hoping he'd just start using it as he envisioned and we'd all soon get the picture. Hopefully he'll chime in and explain how his sticky should be used. If he doesn't, someone else can suggest a use, or I can remove it.

Glad you like the new SWFD ( www.ArizonaScanner.com)! Cost was definitely a major factor in the binding change. The price is already more than I wish it was. When a market for a book is relatively small, costs can't be spread among as many buyers, and each must contribute more to the costs. The Southern California book, for example, sells several times the quantity SWFD does, so I can price it lower and not get killed. Anyway, as a result of SWFD's smaller market, I'm doing everything to keep the total cost down as the page count continues to grow, so that the retail price does NOT have to go up (retail price has remained the same for four editions now).
The alternative I developed for a long-time customer in Prescott is a special-order "binder edition", wherein I send an 8.5" by 11" unbound copy of the book, and the buyer puts it in his choice of binders, sheet protectors, and whatever funky things one can imagine putting it in (other than a photocopier!!!). Price is the same as a bound book, but the buyer has to supply his own binderage.
I am by all means soliciting feedback on the binding change, and am not afraid to switch back to the "coil" if the customers are overwhelmingly in favor of that. Power to the people. So far, though, I've received more positive feedback than negative on the binding. I'll tally you in the negative camp, Phil.

Perhaps he envisioned something similar to what we have in the Maryland forum.

I think you are talking about me who asked for it. I just wanted a tread foor major events so I could post things that are going on such as a major event and so other people can post and I or anybody else can then listen to it. I bassicaly just wanted it to be the same thing as the Mayrland sticky thread for Major events.
By the way there is a baricade situation going on somewhere in the area of 13th place and dunbar. Its on A deck 4 (155.3700 or TG: 2996.)

Oh COOL - I was hoping for something like this.
I have a suggestion though, which will make this much more user friendly. I suggest we format messages like this:
INCIDENT: What it is goes here
LOCATION: Where it is goes here
FREQ/TGID: Frequency/Talkgroup here
DATE/TIME: Date and Time - so we can tell at a glance when this happened.
INFO: Put your details here.
Links: Any links to media websites/video or scanner audio covering the incident can go here. This will be especially good for pursuits and such, so you can watch the video or listen to the audio if you missed it.
Good idea for a thread! I'll give it a whirl if I hear something good.

Way to go Arizona! I started the Maryland "Sticky Thread For Major Events" and it has become very popular - as you can see from the over 500 messages posted to it and over 10,000 views. It's a great way to notify scanner enthusiasts (and news reporters who check ours) when and where something is happening that they might want to tune to. The frequency/talkgroup is most important. Good luck and happy hunting.
