No one single station owns a helicopter per se.
Channel 3 leases a Robinson R44 Raven II from Ft. McDowell Casino. Yes, it does have all the bells and whistles that the other news choppers have including cameras and radios. It is primarily only used in the mornings during the traffic segment of their A and B block of the news cast. Bruce Haffner flies this chopper exclusively. It is white with the Fort McDowell Casino logo on it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisk48/6518122471/
Channel 3 is also part of the lease of a Eurocopter AS350 owned by an outfit out of Scottsdale Airport. This helicopter is shared by channels 5 and 12 as well. Its called "news 20" while in the air. It is an unmarked livery.
The only other news chopper now flying is (also) a Eurocopter AS350 share leased by Channels 10 and 15. Owned by US Helicopters Inc. out of Scottsdale Airpark. It was formally used by channel 15 only and still bears the ABC 15 logo on it. Tail Number N915HD

Thank you for these. Last week I inputed a couple of frequencies from an older thread and yesterday got to hear Bruce Hafner give his location then fly over my building on his way to a thing up the road from where I work. It was pretty cool.

How about the chopper that 3, 5, & 12 uses? I believe this is the one that has Tammy in it. Do they have a set frequency that they use or do they jump around according to the station they are reporting for?

I wasn't able to get the exact frequency on my 106 either. Maybe that explains why sometimes I hear helo ops on it and other times EMS. o.O

If you ever need to listen to the News Media you can do a search from 161.600 to 161.760 and 450.000-450.999.Also News Helicopters use 123.05 and 123.025.The 123.025 is used for helicopters to talk to each other. The 123.025 is a good frequency to keep in a scanner when you see a bunch of tv helicopters above a accident, fire, shooting, etc. Here in the Metro Indianapolis,Indiana market all of the TV Helicopters use the 450Mhz live back to the station during breaking news, morning traffic,, The 123.025 is very active during the morning rush hour for traffic. I hear all 3 helicopters for the local abc, cbs, nbc affilates talking to each other on the 123.025. The 123.05 and 123.025 are VHF am aircraft frequencies.

Airscan, just wanted you to know that I heard a radio frequency other other night....it was a secret conversation not meant to be heard I think....
Two federal agents were talking about how too many scanner users are listening to news helicopters, and that because of this they would be forcing them to use P25 systems with encryption starting next month. Apparently they felt that forcing scanner users to buy expensive digital scanners would be a good thing, so that less people heard their secret conversations. It's a conspiracy, no two ways about it.
What do you think?

it has to do with money.
P26 is not a very good thing but soon P25 will be a thing of the past the transmissions will fail and there it goes.
1 it not approved by the FAA P25 is not an aircraft radio
the cost of digital scanners is only front thier only worth what p25 yes a lousy $1.25
even the news copters inncoident had nothing to do with scanners it had to do with helipilots not focusing. I will only buy a used digital scanner because p25 is a digital system it's old there is nothing new about it. yes they want to block us . the only thing I can think of is start a comumity frequenices
and they can stick their p25 b.s up the cans
All p25 is is just bunch screawed up city talkgroups
my only advice is that media go P25 insame and stuck up is to go to medical and phoenix or pd helicopters
if you want to go P25 than get P25 scanner at a black friday sale the prices are slashed in half
I get a used 1 before new any day
but p25 is a stupid very stupid idea.
