Valley Metro Bus Frequencies

For anyone interested, here is a listing of frequencies used by Valley Metro buses:

452.65 - Data
452.725 - Bus Operations (Veolia Transportation, North Phoenix garage), PL 146.2
452.75 - Bus Operations (Veolia Transportation, South Phoenix garage), PL 146.2
452.825 - Data
463.20 - Bus Operations (First Transit), PL 146.2
463.40 - Bus Operations (Veolia Transportation, Mesa garage), PL 146.2
463.55 - Bus Operations (Veolia Transportation, Tempe garage) PL 146.2

All frequencies are licensed to the City of Phoenix. An additional frequency, 452.80, is licensed to the City of Phoenix however I did not hear any transmissions. A service provider called Valu-Trans located in Glendale also operates Valley Metro routes, primarily during peak hours M-F. Perhaps 452.80 is the frequency used for their operations. Can someone in the Phoenix area monitor this frequency and post their findings. If the transmission includes a route number, a list of routes and service providers is included in the Valley Metro website.

Expect these to go silent soon. Valley Metro will be moving onto the Phoenix RWC in the near future and replacing their old data and GPS AVL system as well because the vendor no longer supports it. A new subsystem will be created in the 700MHz band and added to RWC.

Ready for the price tag? Sitting down?

I programmed in some of the Bus Op frequencies and am hearing bus traffic so guess nothing has changed yet.

Here in Portland, Oregon they're spending over $30 million on a new dispatch/radio system, though there's 600 buses (which need new dispatch interfaces as well as radios), 100+ light rail vehicles (most with two cabs and a radio in each, and the operator having a portable).

Interestingly enough the PDF I linked to is now gone, but the page it redirects to has another PDF listed on it where the city wants to raise $15 million dollars to match $15 million it has already raised so it can spend $30 million replacing the PACE system. Seems like there's no shortage of money to spend on technology in Phoenix, but yet they have a hard time keeping actual cops on the payroll. Really?
