Default SBS-3 - Any other Owners in AZ ?

I took the plunge and bought the Kinetics SBS-3 to monitor ADSB messages.

Anyone else in Arizona using it? Or perhaps a different receiver ?

Looking for someone to collaborate with on this local to AZ, if possible.

Welcome to the ADS-B world. Hope you have fun learning about your new SBS-3 toy.

One user located in Chandler, Arizona on this group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/radarboxusalogs/

Another person(Kevin) with SBS in the Phoenix area. He uploads his Mode-S hits to http://live-military-mode-s.eu/

Thank you.

Yes, I am loving it. It's gonna be heck building my database I'm located southwest of Tucson, so that should give a nice little spread. Really surprised how far "I see" with a mag-mount sitting next to my window Have to invest in an outside antenna.

Lots to do ...

Keep your eyes out for those Border Patrol helicopters on Mode-S.

I checked it out. So far, using a mag-mount that I bought from Kinetics, in addition to the gimme antenna with the hardware. The mag-mount is sitting on a window sill and is pulling in aircraft from about 200nm in either direction . Can't wait to put one outside

I've actually received one confirmed hit and one possible BP Helo, Mode-S.
Also, a few military Mode-S's too, of which I confirmed a couple

Other than that one site which limits queries to 150 per day, is there another site for putting in the 24bit addresses for ID?

The best site would be the link above http://live-military-mode-s.eu to look up the Military/Government information.
On your account you would see daily text list logs from your box. (Like the one you see being posted in the Florida forum area)

Here few more...

http://www.gatwickaviationsociety.org.uk
http://www.airframes.org
http://www.flightradar24.com/data/
http://www.libhomeradar.org/

FlightDisplay good add-on software to use with SBS.
https://sites.google.com/site/0flightdisplay/homepage

Some other good add-ons:

Don't forget you can also decode ACARS on the SBS-3 as well. Welcome to the club! Would love to see you share your data on Albert's site, we North Americans need to stick together: I share from the SF Bay area ...

Default SBS Users in Arizona

Hello John
Been using the SBS-1 for abt 5 years and now also the Beast.
A few other SBS users have popped up for a while on PlanePlotter but maybe just travelers.
We need more mode-S users in the South West to get some serious MLAT going.

Hi John welcome to ADS-B. Im the Chandler Site KCDL you might see. Im running the AirNav box with Daves DPD Productions ADS-B antenna with LMR400 coax up about 21ft. I have a shadow down towards the Tucson area from the Santan Mountains. Sure would like to see how far South of the Boarder you hear down in the gulf area also. Have fun with your new toy...

Thanks everyone. I am still discovering things with this, but have been very happy with my results so far. Once I get the external antenna, I should be really cooking.

I started out with the laptop and just had a crash that is stopping my BaseStation software from performing. The great thing is I backed up the data base, so I'm running it on my main computer just fine. Now to fix the problem on the software ...

I have to say it is really nice to be able to correlate the Mode S and ADS-B activity with the ATC channels and others, that I have been monitoring that contain air activity.

Once I am up, would love to get what I'm learning out there....

Thanks for the encouragement public and private

Well, to say I am pleased with my investment is an understatement. Still sitting in my house, SW of Tucson, with a mobile mag-mount antenna placed on the wood window sill of my west facing window, and I was able to track a FEDEX flight coming in to Tucson International. But, it didn't stop there. I watched as he landed and taxi-ed his aircraft off the runway and to his parking spot in the cargo area. I am posting a picture of the final moments. Notice the rings are about .4nm apart. Pretty detailed. I was able to watch it all the way to about .1nm rings apart.

Yes, I am at a higher altitude than Tucson

I played a little bit with the ACARS on my laptop for decode. But, I'm going to have to get a good ACARS program to translate it cleanly for me

I've been building outlines of the local airports so I can see a little more clearly what's happening, especially since I "look down" on them. I have tracked aircraft on the ground from my location.

Kevin,

You are going to have to help me with this one. I looked over the documentation, but looks like I have a little work to do in that area..

I am "eD" today. I don't know if that is my permanent tag or if changes

Mike,
I'm finally up on Flightradar24 : T-KDMA1

Still using the mobile antenna in the house on a ledge, but it does pretty good.

Next up, an external antenna
