I would seriously doubt it happening. The cost involved to install "scramble" on every AWIN radio would seem to be a little much to me. But ya never know.

These States have been given stimulus money and they might now have the money to do it.

I can understand some Scrambling for certian channels, like PD Tac channels, Ems to hospital channels for patient privacy, and the DEA, and Govt channels, but i dont see how they could justify spending all that money to Scrambe every channel that would be alot of waste. on certian channels like some of the public works TG,road depts, here in fort smith the city buses are on AWIN now what would be the point in spending the money to scamble those TG. They should use it help every PD FD EMS unit in the state buy radios for all there units so that way the whole state can communicate, some counties around here only have enought money to buy a couple of radios for the whole county, focus on getting everyone all on the same page first, not focusing on making it were people like us not being able to listen to them.

Thats just my point of view on it, some may agree/diagee thats just my 2cents

Well I couldn't believe it either but The guy I talked to is actually a Dispatcher in Troop B for Arkansas State Police in Newport and he says they told him that everything on AWIN would be scrambled in a year. That's the word, Whether it happens or not who knows, I guess we'll see.

The sad facts are the Law Enforcement Agencies believe that their Policies and Police procedures should be confidential. They are feel that the Offenders and Criminals would monitor them.

I do not agree with the Police, they never produced any statistical data that people are using scanners to monitor police and commit crimes. I feel the police to not want to be monitored and held accountable for duties as sworn police officers.

A few years ago there was some legislation in some States, Counties and Cities that was being proposed that the police could not encrypt radio signals that Tax Payers were paying for.

I believe that the manufactures of radio scanners should send their lobbyist to the Arkansas Legislature to defend their position. Hopefully one day the manufactures will develop scanners that monitor encrypted radio signals.

Thats true we help pay there wages and help buy the radios so i agree we should should have the right to listen to what we helped pay for.

And i think the common criminal would not even know how to program a digital scanner nor take the time to monitor it.

Id like to see some numbers to back their theory up with, how many criminals have they caught doing crimes have actually had a 300-500$ digital scanner with them with they were committing the crime. And im sure by scambling the AWIN system we are going to see a huge drop in crimes in arkansas

I dont know about the rest of the state but here in Sebastian county they dispatch all the really good calls on MDT'S

I would recommend that you contact your Arkansas State Representative and State Senator and discussion your concerns about the possibility that Awin maybe encrypted in the future and that you are against it.

This is your most power weapon in finding out what their intentions really are because he or she will investigate and give you a answer. If enough people that they represent call in about it they might tell them not to do it.

Give it a rest guys. First of all it wouldn't be a good idea to talk to anyone about your hobby of enjoyment called "listening to scanners" unless you know that person enjoys it likewise.

Try visiting Florida with your hobby of enjoyment. Thats if you can hear conversations still without scambling. Then if you are caught with your $500 dollar scanner in a moving vehicle its not yours anymore! It belongs to whoever wants it the most after they claim you broke the law. Or maybe they fine you a bunch of money that could have been used to futher your hobby of scanning. Either way it sucks.

I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there that really don't get what the hobby of scanning the airwaves is. I'm sure they think owning a "scanner is cool". This includes idiots and criminals. They saw it in a movie or they seen a neighbor with one. They probally don't have it turned on most of the time. Too busy on the cellphone or listening to subwoofer music.

AWIN is a great system. You can hear a lot of good information being dispatched during inclement weather. If they want to scamble the system its up to them. If they do though it would say they don't care about interoperability. That was why the system was built in the first place. Just my thoughts, Altec.

No one has told Motorola if they are going scrambling......

Don't look for it widespread when it does happen.

Worry more about government entities that want to hide what they say from you than the need to hide anything 'cause the kriminals 'll get it.
