Thumbs up New AWIN Talkgroup

I snagged another one last night.

31213

Like the one last week, it was encrypted and within the range for Fort Smith's talk groups.

Wish there was a way to ID these for certain.

I caught a new one this afternoon. Just heard tail end of traffic (nothing to help ID). TG 16201. Anyone have an idea? I think it might be a county, since a lot of them have **201 as beginning of TGs.

Arrow TGRP numbers....

Would be nice to figure out their structure for assigning TGRP numbers (if it exists). Maybe someone else is sharp enough to put 2 and 2 together. It has me stumped.

4 digit groups all seemed to be state agencies but then they added a 5 digit for governor's security!

It appears they assign 200 slots per agency. The primary is always a "01" whether it is a municipality or a county. Some cities like Jonesboro (16416) seem to be assigned by the county, Craighead (16401) where others like Ft Smith (31201) appear to be assigned by the state and nowhere near the county's allocation (Sebastian Co is 18601).

There may be a basic structure but it appears it is an open furball beyond that. Totally random.

You'd figure that when they set it all up they would have structured it to assume all counties and cities therein would eventually come on board and set aside TGIDs for them.

I'd bet they have some sort of loose ptotocol mapped out for the state level.

Figuring it out is what makes this hobby so fun.

Default TGID's formats

Well, the whole assignment dogma stems from the fact that "originally" AWIN was designed to connect the 12 State Police Troops and not much else. Having said that, it wasn't long before everybody wanted to get on board for interagency communications in an emergency situation. A good idea overall.

And yes, there should have been some sort of numbering scheme based on the 12 Troops or the 75 counties that would be consistent from place to place, but hind site is 20/20. What they are doing now is just playing catch up as new entities want to get on board.

If you look closely at some areas, it's pretty much a crap shoot as to the numbering assigned. Encrypted TGID's don't help much either in trying to identify who is who.
