Exclamation Using a ham dipole?

Any other hams out there tried connecting their dipole to their scanner?

I ran a patch cord from the balun at the bottom of my G5RV over to my Pro-197 this morning....

WOW!

Everything within 30 miles is S-5! Even the airport control tower at Fort Smith.

I did a reset of the S meter setting inside Win500 a couple of weeks ago to tighten it up a little, S-5 is now at 725 and it drops 75 for each level going down, 725, 650, 575, 500, 425. I figured since 750 was the max setting, 725 would be a decent level 5.

What say?
