Default ASP Direct???

OK anyone in the know- When ASP says go direct, are they using an Conventional Repeater, or the 800 MHz ICALL/ITAC in simplex??

"Direct" is usually another term for "simplex", both on the same frequency, not going through a repeater. "Direct" is generally line of sight or close range. With an 800MHz radio, that would mean within 5-10 miles or closer.

You might be able to find them with a signal stalker mode.

Actually it IS a Conventional 800mhz simplex frequency... I have it written down somewhere but I cannot remember where it is. You will not be able to pick it up unless you are VERY close to the units that are talking. It is used kind of like a "car-to-car" or "talk around" channel. However they do have to actually switch to that channel, not by hitting the direct button, because like what btritch said, all the other channels are AWIN Talkgroups

One of the nationwide 800's? And are they using it digital or analog... The last few times I heard a K unit say go direct he was working a checkpoint about five miles from me on 70.

No its not nation wide. Its a conventional Analog 800mhz frequency, they cannot use it unless they are very very close to one another, it only goes a very short distance. If they are very far away, you will here them say go to TAC 1. Because they arent close enough to talk on direct. But like I said, Direct is a simplex analog 800mhz freq, I think it begins with 867.???? I cant remember though.

What I meant by nationwide is the 800 MHz I-CALL/ITAC's in place for ALL users of 800 nationwide. These-
