Default Winter Commin....

OK for those that have lived here a while... What is winter in these mountains in central AR like??? Much snowfall etc???... Been in the WNC mountains before, and the wild midwest of INDY.... seen the legendary snowfall in Charleston, SC..*Where it never snows*....So want to get a lil prepped for this one here.

The last big snow I remember was the Winter of 76 - 77 when I lived in Hoxie & Walnut Ridge. We had snow back then that was a little more than knee high on me. It happened right at the end of Christmas break. We got out of school for another 10 days. It is way overdue for it to happen again.

In Arkansas, the main worry is ICE!

We are too far south to get a lot of snow, too far north to avoid all freezing stuff so the major problem is ice storms with power outages of a month for some. I know we have had a couple of bad ones in the last 10 years. You need a back-up heat source and emergency lighting, mostly. If you are like me and have a total electric home, you also need a way to cook (Coleman stove).

One thing to keep in mind is a battery powered carbon monoxide detector. Heard of one chap (not in Arkansas) who set up a generator in a spare bedroom, opened the window to let the exhaust out and closed the bedroom door to seperate it from the rest of the house.

Didn't work. He's dead.

My mom who has lived here over two years says we get small time snow, but that shuts down the roads lol... Just like MS..... And yep ice.... Will try to invest in some extra heating stuff.... And our detectors all have new batts.. As a former FF I always check that out lol.
