ASP TROOP A - TGRP Question
Can anyone tell me what geographical area the "North" and "South" Dispatch TGRP's in Troop A cover?
I travel through Little Rock via IH 30 to 440 to IH 40 several times a year. Basically the South and East sides.
I know that the "South" dispatch covers at least the IH 30 portion of this route and I've heard IH 40 mentioned on "North", but I'm not sure if that includes the portion that I'm driving through. If it doesn't then I would like to delete the "North" TGRP.
Thanks,
Mike

I would imagine they are separated by the Arkansas River.
Nice thing about an unused talk group. The radio scans past it so fast that removing it doesn't really make that much difference.
MIght as well leave it there in case something interesting happens.
Here's a link to a map of the ASP Troops and what counties each covers:

Well it used to be divided by the river. Not anymore!
"North" covers Lonoke, Faulkner and Saline Counties.
(Conway, Greenbrier, Benton, Bryant, England, Cabot, Lonoke).
"South" is dedicated to Pulaski County only.
(Little Rock, North Little Rock, Maumelle, Sherwood, Jacksonville)
So you travel thru Pulaski, Saline and Lonoke counties, it would be best to leave both TG's on so you can hear those 3 counties' traffic.

Strange designator in that "north" contains counties both north, east and south of Pulaski. But I can imagine Pulaski has enough going on there to almost require it being a troop in and of itself.
I remember how hard those Troopers worked when I would listen to them on my scanner from North Little Rock back 12 years ago. They put up with a LOT of nonsense.
Anyway, it is their Troop, they can divide it anyway they want and call it what they will.

Yes when I started here in 1995 Troop-A was just Pulaski and Lonoke Counties. We inherited Saline from Troop-K and Faulkner from Troop-J in 2000. We just had 1 channel back then (dispatch). Trust me we need 2 channels now and could probably use 3 or sometimes 4. But of course we would need more manpower in dispatch, and we all know that is not gonna happen!

Thanks for the response. I would never have guessed at that breakdown. There is usually a lot going on when I go through Little Rock so I was trying to cut down on any unnecessary chatter.

I remember those days. I lived on the north edge of NLR from 1986 to 1998, about a half mile south of the NLR airport. Great signal from a discone up on a mast. I could hear everybody.
I remember when I bought my Pro-2004. Had to wait a month for the first one to arrive at the RS store in the shopping center below the old NLR Memorial hospital where I worked. 300 channels! I was in hog heaven!
There were times the ASP Troop A frequency was so busy, I had to choose whether to listen to them or to NLR FD/PD.
I still remember one night when a trooper made a traffic stop out on the Jacksonville Freeway by McCain Mall and was out a really long time. Troop A dispatch contacted NLR PD and they were about to send a couple of cars to check on him when he came back on the air and said he was okay. Someone asked him what happened and he said "This bozo tried to play cowboy and pulled a gun on me." Not the slightest bit of excitement in his voice, very matter of fact. Wasn't even breathing hard.
All I could think was "Wow!"

That is hilarious! I wish I had a recording of all the funny moments over the radio, I think we could package them up and sell them. Way too many moments like that one. Better yet with video now in all the troopers cars, Now that would be worth paying for!
