I haven't bought a new scanner in probably seven or eight years, so I'm excited how far they've come but sort of leery about how complicated they may be to program.

I like the ease that the PSR-800 seems to offer, but I'm told you can't add frequencies on the fly. I feel like that will limit me (although I'm not specifically sure why). The flip side is that I don't have a PhD and I don't want to have to get one for the PSR-500.

If I go the 500 route, what software would you recommend for programming? I'm told that only a fool or a mad scientist would program it from the keyboard. :-)

Win500 has been good to me on my Pro-197 and when I had my Pro-106. Makes programming a breeze.

Either of the above are fine. I was using win96 for my pro96 so I just upgraded to win500 for easy importing.

Either software will kinda overwhelm you at first if you try to do it without doing radioreference import. I'm a computer "guru" and it stressed me out a few days.

I used arc for bc996xt and had the same stressing. pay for the radioreference import.

I will send you mine if you my win500 if you want to look at it.

Default Trauma feed

[QUOTE=safetyobc;1706581]Arkansas State Police Live Scanner Audio Feed will broadcast trauma comm if not mistaken. It is ASP broadcast but does have other stuff on there.

The Troop-A feed will not pick up the Trauma talk groups. I have even dropped the highway police feed (off the asp feed) after they read back 34 different "arrests" information a few weeks ago and tied up that feed for over 3 minutes. All you will hear now is Troop-A (mainly) and some feeds occasionally from the other 11 troops.

Also I believe that broadcasting the Trauma feeds might be against RR policy. I know they don't want like ambulance to hospital reports (patient info). Only Ambulance dispatch channels are approved. Do they do patient reports on those channels?

Trauma Comm will have an ambulance report "transporting a xx year old male patient to ____ hospital, with ______ (condition/complaints), and give a trauma band number."

That's usually what I've heard on there. So, yeah, I'd be leary of putting that on the feed per the RR rules without some sort of approval from RR staff.

Yeah I’ve never listened to them before but that's what I was afraid of. I guess if someone wants to hear them that bad they'll have to get a P25 scanner. And those are pretty pricey.

Sometimes, you can find one in the "For Sale" forum fairly decently priced.

I got a PSR 500 from a guy in Seattle at about half the new cost after he couldn't figure it out.
