Default AWIN System Upgrade

For those of you who were wondering what was going on with the AWIN TRS, here's what happened:

Quote:
July 24, 2012

The SOUTH ZONE is scheduled to be down TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY JULY 25, 2012, during an equipment move into a new secure shelter. The move will be between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. All Consoles in the South Zone will be down. Sites will be in Site Trunking, communications will be localized to each site with no wide area communications. Please be prepared to use backup communications during this time.
------------------------------
August 2, 2012

The AWIN System Zone Controllers will be upgraded August 6th through August 17th.
In preparation for this the ID/ALIAS Database will be frozen for radios being added to the system July 18th through August 20th.
-------------------------------
August 15, 2012

We are on the last leg of the upgrade. Between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM all sites may experience brief downtime as we reboot hardware devices. Each site should only experience about 30 seconds of downtime. However, please be prepared to use backup communications during this time.
The system was also upgraded to ASTRO 7.11.

Maybe the main system, but not the tower sites. That would take a tremendous investment and reworking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 7.6 hardware cannot be flashed to 7.11; it has to be replaced.

It was the main system that was upgraded. ASTRO 7.11 is the firmware that now drives the system. Several months ago, Michigan upgraded to ASTRO 7.11, and it was somewhat easier than in the past upgrades, which required considerable down time in some cases at each site.
