Last year, AWIN added five new sites to the system. They maybe on 700 MHz, and licensed under the statewide license at this time. If anyone can shed some light on the frequencies in use at these sites, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Benton (Saline County)
  • Harrisburg (Poinsett County)
  • Preston Ferry (Arkansas County)
  • Russelville (Pope County), still under construction.
  • Star City (Lincoln County)

Benton Site

The Benton site has its antennas installed, but it's not actually live yet that I'm aware. (No adjacent sites seem to be reporting it yet, either.)

They just completed an upgrade to the zone controllers, so I wouldn't be surprised if it comes online pretty soon.

@ae5au Can Clay shed light on the saline tower?

Where is this tower located?

As-far-as the controllers, they have that stack of paperwork for new IDs they started creating yesterday. I think RP and Grace have their hands full!

Haven't talked to him in a while. Maybe he will chime in.

At the Saline County OEM in downtown Benton.

No doubt. I hope to start seeing some traffic from the Little Rock system's users preparing for their move. I've been leaving the scanner logging wildcards from Shinall and Roosevelt sites hoping to catch something interesting.

They have been working on the East Little Rock tower the last couple of days.

It was listed as Roosevelt so maybe that will be the new name once LR goes live & additional tower(s) are setup. Site 62 is currently East Little Rock in the RR database.

Any new info on Harrisburg (Poinsett County) site? Will this be new tower?

I searched through the FCC database tonight, and I couldn't find a license for this site. However, that doesn't mean that it's not on the air at this time. A thorough search of the 700 and 800 MHz bands, may turn up a control channel, especially on the former of the two.

Springdale AWIN freqs changed?

I can't get the Springdale control channel any more. I'm just a couple of miles from the tower, too. I'm hearing a control channel on 856.1875 full strength. Wondering if troop L has changed up freqs?

Springdale FREQS: Still the same at
851.5875
851.8375
852.6875
852.9375
853.2125

Your picking up the Combs site CC. Try programming in ALL the Springdale freqs and see if maybe they rotated to one of the other freqs. There are 3 CC's listed currently, that means there is still a possible 4th in the line up. Useful tup: When using CC only for trunking, program ALL the CC's for each site, not just the primary. And if your only monitoring a few sites, and they are not huge sites, and only say one, or two CC's are known, then program in ALL the freqs for the site. It works to find all 4 possible CC's on a Motorola TRS. *For any site that has at least 5 to 6 freqs.*

I programmed in all of the Springdale freqs a couple days ago and didn't pick up any CC. I have always kept all of the CCs for sites in my area programmed in. I'll have to look at it more closely.

Expansion Heads Up

According to inside information, on at least two of the sites that are "conversion" sites, they are indeed building whole new towers, sheds, etc. Thats for Chinall Mt (Little Rock), and Benton's new addition. A bunch more of Saline County's VFD's just got AWIN gear and will very soon be up on it. So over the next few months will be a lot of new additions to the AWIN.
So apparently they are going to make sure they have no dead zones at all in the new areas.
