DSE DTS-96 Scanner HELP!!!
hi, im hoping someone may be able to help me out with trunk tracking.Im really new to digital scanning and am exhausted after spending 3 days and Sh#t loads of internet usage learning.Ive finally upgraded from a uniden UBC93XLT to a DSE DTS-96 scanner and to be honest its driving me nuts!! lol
Ive entered the control frequency and set trunk to motorola.when it scans i receive the talk group ids and can even save them by pressing trunk however i can not hear anything. Ive programmed conventional frequencies for RFS etc and these work well, ive "initialised" the scanner a couple of times in the hope this may work but no such luck. Am i missing something or is this scanner buggered??
Also when i manually select the channel i hear a contstant hissing with the following displayed on the screen. (of which the last three lines constantly take turns in flashing up)
M002.....D.+MO
416.47500
Bank 0 ch 02
96:SY2d1 99%
96:T0109 98%
96:BEE00 98%

I recommend you edit your Profile to show at least the Country, and State you are in, as it makes it easier for others to help you.
I am guessing that you are monitoring Picton (Razorback) in NSW.
For UHF and VHF systems, you have to enter ALL the frequencies for the Site.
Motorola Control Channel Only ONLY works for 800 MHz systems.

Comint: Thanks for your reply, ive updated my details and yeah you are right im trying to monitor trunked freq off of razorback,so your saying i need to enter all the freq for the site, and now which setup are they saved under as in my scanner instructions ive got 1. Programming 800mhz motorola analog, digital, and apco-25 trunking systems and 2. programming motorola VHF & UHF trunking systems which requires a base freq, step and offset.
Cheers

Never had to program a DTS-96, or a PRO-96 for that matter.
As I understand it, when you get to the Base, Step, Offset stage, you are given the option of selecting "Table", and this is what you select. The NSWGRN P25 system broadcasts the Base, Step, Offset information over the air, so you don't have to enter it yourself.

Do yourself a favour Rob and download the software for the DTS. its far easier to program that way. Butel makes the software for the 96 (go for the Pro96 software, it has provisions for the DTS) and get a cable too if you dont have one. I have acouple of Pro96's there a great scanner and track the NSW GRN well. the DTS was a little different in the way it was setup but is the same basic scanner as the Pro96.
cheers

The PRO96 ignores the bandplan information sent over the control channel. The DTS96 may do the same. You'll have to program the bandplan into the radio. Run mikey60's program Pro96Com with your DTS96 to log the bandplan details. Use ARC96 or Win96 to program your DTS96 - bandplans and all.

As far as I am aware, PRO96COM does not work with the DTS-96. That is one of the things that got screwed-up when they modded the PRO-96 to produce the DTS-96.

Should have added:-
It seems the Butel software is the only software that works with the DTS-96.
