3800???? Wow!

Is this the model with the gas tank troubles though?

Nice looking car. I think Ford makes a mistake not selling new CV's to the general public even though they would cost a bit more than $3800

Hope it makes you a good ride. Seems that the demand for the CVs has risen with Ford doing the Fleet sales thing, a friend has a used car lot was telling me he bought one, and had more people call and stop in about it than any other car on the lot. He currently has 4 of them on the lot. They are very comfortable and radio friendly I had one about 2 years, till we had record gas prices.

Crown Vics are good cars with a few indiscretions, ie. the fuel tank that has a tendency to catch on fire if struck in the rear, and the turning radious of an RV. They are confortable, got a pretty good engine, and roomy.

The 05 Vic has a problem with fuel tank detonation?? Didn't know that! Learn something new every day.

If I remember correctly, all Crown Vics on the Panther platform have that issue, and I believe the 2005 is. If I am wrong, please correct me.

You're correct 2005 is, the problem began in the 90's, in 2005 the Crown Vic came with a fire suppression system. It's not really a problem with the car more a problem with installers drilling into the tank and officers having a higher probability of a rear end high speed collision.

I should add to that, it is a design problem...sort of. A lot of cars would suffer the same fate if in a rear end collision of 70-75MPH it's just that the crown vic in police use has a higher probability that this will happen.

Yeah. Still, the chances of you being in a high speed rear end collision are slim to none, and should not deter you from getting a Crown Vic.

Hope you have fun with your new toy!

Ford has addressed the gas tank issue recently, and I do believe that the newer Crown Vic P-71 POLICE INTERCEPTORS are equiped with the fire supression system. I currently have a 2000 INTERCEPTOR and I don't let the gas tank scenerio bother me... if it happened, it would be rare... as not every instance of rear end collission results in explosion on the CVPI.

On a lighter note, the Ford CVPI model offers high performance, great engine power and torque, great AC and Heater, plenty of interior space and leg room, comfortable ride, huge trunk, and a ton of radio space.... not to mention, the cars appearance may offer you hassle free driving while on the turnpike, as many people see that thing in thier rear view mirrors, and get out of your way to be curtious. Many drivers respect that vehicle as being THE LAW.

So, I see the before and after pictures. (In service with police goodies, and out of service without.) Are you able to utilize pre-drilled holes ? If so, I think that would make radio installation easier.

AND- ebay auto sales! The FCV, especially the PI is a hot ticket seller! A few you have to do interior work on, but the majority are in excellent condition.... For those that are Volee FF's or FR's many also still have the wig-wags hooked up and the spotlights usually still work. I saw one last year that still had the antena's (UHF, VHF Hi, VHF Lo, and an 800 MHz still on with the wiring....) As well as amber strobes on rear deck, wig-wags, and a siren/PA kit. It went for $3,9500.99... Don't ask how the 99 cents got on..
