Default Baofeng uv-5r plus antennas

I was looking at the newer Baofeng UV-5r plus models ( the color models; yellow, red, blue, and camo ) and noticed that the color model has a longer antenna than the original black edition. Does anyone have any experience with the 18cm antenna on the color models, is there any discernible difference in reception?

Baofeng uv5r testing antennas - YouTube

Not sure there is much discernable difference in this test. Big antennas for a small radio though. Mine seems to do just fine on the RX.

The antenna on the eBay page is 15cm. The antennas on the new 5r+ qualette series (color radios) are 18cm. I have yet to find one of the 18cm on sale by itself (without the radio).

A very popular antenna is the NA-771.
Better performance on VHF, somewhat better on UHF. Although it is 14.5" long.

Keep in mind, there is no Magic Antenna out there :-)

I use a Diamond SRJ77CA with some pretty good results. No adapters needed either.

Default Baofeng uv-5r plus antennas

Has anyone noticed increased static/noise when using longer, or more specifically 1/4 or 5/8 wave base or mag mount antennas?

I have a Nagoya NA-701 antenna on mine that I feel works better than the stock antenna but compromises on length. I may try one of the longer versions later. I also made a simple 1/4 wave whip antenna for a mag mount that seems to pick up lots of static bursts.
