• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The Baofeng/Poxfung UV-6 is the nearest thing to a scanner I have found.
It has 8 Groups (like Banks) holding 16 freqs. in each Group. The Groups can be scanned or all 128 channels can be scanned.
Be aware, there are at least two other UV-6 varieties that do NOT have this capability; the
the UV-6R and the UV-B6 and there may be others.

Scanning
The UV-6 has 8 Groups (Banks) that can store 16 freqs. in each Group. Each Group can be scanned or all 128 freqs. can be scanned. The green light blinks while scanning.

Scanning Modes (Can only be set using software)
1. Time Scanning Mode has a 5 second delay after stopping.
2. Carrier Scanning Mode has a 3 second delay after stopping.
3. Search Scanning Mode. After stopping on a signal the green light blinks slowly and you
can transmit on that channel by pushing the PTT button. Press MONI to continue scanning.

Scan Groups
1. Channels 1-16
2. Channels 17-32
3. Channels 33-48
4. Channels 49-64
5. Channels 65-80
6. Channels 81-96
7. Channels 97-112
8. Channels 113-128

To Scan a Group
1. Turn radio OFF.
2. Turn Channel Selector (middle knob) to the Group you want to scan.
3. HOLD the 【MONI】and【PF1】buttons while turning the radio ON.

To Scan all 128 channels
1. Turn radio OFF.
2. Turn Channel Selector (middle knob) to #16.
3. HOLD the 【MONI】and【PF1】buttons while turning the radio ON.
4. ??? If Dual Standby is ON, Press the PTT to transmit on the selected freq. ???
(Their "Chinglish" is not very clear, but this is my best effort at "translating" it).

Only works for VHF/UHF conventional frequencies. Will not work not work with 700/800mhz trunking, or any digital systems.

Of course. It's just like all the other Baofengs in that respect. What do you expect for $34.?

You're lucky.:D

Our crank phone upgrade project died in county appropriations committee last month. It was decided that we had too much tied up in tin cans and string with no guarantee of interoperability with the newfangled crank phones.
