I've been busy on some other tasks so I did not create a thread on this. It is hard to keep track of how many fires the last two days of lightning have started The Fork fire in Bishop Creek Canyon has been the priority since it started. The Glass Fire was the first of the fires to receive priority as it was the larges, then resources were redirected to a fire north of Mono Lake that was threatening structures so it became the priority. That one was knocked down about the time the Forks Fire started to move and then most of the resources ordered for the fires on the north end of the Forest were sent to it.
The latest traffic from the Forks Fire is that Inyo County and the CHP have pulled their units out of the canyon down to the Starlite area. There is some traffic regarding hikers coming out at the South Lake trail head inside the evacuation area.
The splitting of the Forest into a South Net and North Net worked very well in this case. The White Mtn. and Whitney Ranger Districts were kept on the South Net, the Mammoth Ranger District on North Net and the Mono Lake Ranger District on the BLM net. I thought the BLM net had been abandoned but the assignment of it to the Mono Lake RD proved that to not be the case. I haven't monitored it directly so I'm not sure if it is still on 166.4875, but I picked up the Silver Peak down link on 415.075. Bishop residents can use this link frequency to listen to traffic in the northern end of the Inyo NF.
The long time radio tech on the Inyo, who retired about 2004 had resisted this move to a north and south net, but it is working very well. I still think the Forest needs an additional Admin Net so that the regular, routine traffic on the Forest can continue when there are multiple fire starts.
Don't forget to program in 409.1875 (down link) and 418.1875 (up link) for the Inyo NF North Net. The remote base that uses these frequencies is on Silver Peak. It will allow you to hear all the north end repeaters, including Sweetwater in the northern portion of Mono County, which provides coverage for the Walker/Coleville area.
For the south end of the Inyo NF program in 406.275 (down link) and 415.275 (uplink), which link the Mazourka Peak remote base to the dispatch center on West Line Street (Pacu Lane) in the Forest Supervisor's/BLM Bishop Field Office building. There is another set of link frequencies that link this same remote base to Lone Pine. I believe these frequencies are 406.400 (down link) and 415.400 (up link).
