Default Brookdale Inn fire upgraded to third-alarm

Brookdale Inn fire upgraded to third-alarm

Sentinel Staff Report
Posted: 08/18/2009 05:39:36 PM PDT

BROOKDALE- The Brookdale Inn & Spa, the famed haunted hotel and restaurant, is ablaze with flames shooting high into the sky.

Firefighters in the area say a heavy column of smoke can be seen coming from Brookdale.

Cal Fire has a full wildland response in the area because of the Lockheed Fire though none were in the area. Just after 6 p.m. aircraft began making drops over the Inn and the surrounding wildland area. Cal Fire sent two air tankers, each with 300 gallons of fire retardant on board.

Highway 9 and Clear Creek Road are closed.

Listen to Santa Cruz county fire for details...
