Vegetation Fire - Lytle Creek Area
I have not heard much activity on my scanner as of yet. Most traffic that I am hearing is on 8-FIRE-1. I have heard that Applewhite is being evacuated and I have also heard a request for the sheriff to shut down Lone Pine Canyon Road. The fire is putting up a large header that is visible from Rancho Cucamonga.
Here is a discussion about this fire from the nearby Wrightwood forum: Wrightwood Forum - Topic: Vegetation Fire - Lytle Creek 10-3-09

So far I have heard traffic on 8-FIRE-1, 8-TAC-1, and I just heard that they will be using 8-ATAC-1 for primary (they being the sheriff I believe).

They are now calling this the "Sheep Fire" and have established "Sheep IC." 171.475 (BDF Forest Net) will be the primary for fire traffic. Tactics are on 168.200.
Ontario just dispatched engine 176 to I15 and Sierra to stage.

1,000 acres burn near Cajon Pass in San Bernardino County
Quote:
October 3, 2009 | 6:17 pm
U.S. Forest Service and San Bernardino County firefighters are battling a blaze in the eastern San Gabriel Mountains that ignited this afternoon and quickly scorched 1,000 acres, authorities said.
The fire, which started about 2 p.m., is centered in the Lytle Creek area east of Mount Baldy and west of the Cajon Pass. It was threatening 300 structures, many of them homes, Forest Service spokesman John Miller said.
Fifty to 100 people have been evacuated through reverse 911 calls and door-to-door visits, Miller said.
Authorities worried that thick chaparral, scattered timber and 60-mph winds would hamper their efforts to contain the fire.
"Whenever there is wind, there's trouble," Miller said.

Lytle Creek fire destroys three homes, threatens hundreds more, forces evacuations
Quote:
LYTLE CREEK - A brush fire that erupted in the Lytle Creek area Saturday destroyed three homes, threatened hundreds more, burned more than 1,500 acres, and forced evacuations and several road closures.
The fire, dubbed the Sheep Fire, started at 2:11 p.m., according to U.S. Forest Service officials.
The blaze forced evacuations of the Applewhite Campgrounds, Swarthout Canyon and the Happy Jack area as well as Mountain Lakes in the Lytle Creek area.
By late Saturday evening, 40 mph winds pushed the flames into a southern direction, a fire official said. Officials said Wrightwood was not threatened by the blaze.
A dispatcher at the U.S. Forest Service fire information line confirmed Saturday evening that three homes were burned in the Swarthout Canyon area.
The fire threatened approximately 300 homes. The area is largely rural and most residents live on large parcels of land where they keep animals such as horses.
"This is very dry, very willing to burn brush," said Jim Wilkins, public information officer for the U.S. Forest Service.
