The leading engine shown in the last shot has an apparatus number of 5565. I didn't think Cal Fire had anything in the 5000 series anymore.

5500 units are from the CAL FIRE academy in Ione. They are pressed into service when needed.

there are several people who have posted some amazing pictures on yubanet.com.

hopefully the crews wrap up that fire, my parents live ~10 miles from the fire and are out of town. i REALLY don't wanna have to drive up there and pack up the house by myself.

Hey Smokey,

Kingscup is correct. The 5500 apparatus is assigned to Ione, and two strike teams were staffed out of there last week. We sent 10 FF and two officers from my unit down there in a van to staff some of them.

All of our '5' units (three digit - 5xx; four digit 5xxx) are units assigned to Sacramento HQ, even if they are not physically working out of Sac. Picture it as Region 5 in our numbering scheme; that will make more sense.
