Smile Are they legal?

Is puxing px 888 legal to have in California? Thinking about buying it but I don't want to get caught if it is illegal to have.

The only legal radios for use in the USA have a FCC certification for the Land Mobile bands. If you are importing from China then most likely it is not legal to use in the USA. I understand that the sellers of these radios are labeling them as "Toy Gifts" on customs forms to avoid import taxes if that gives you any hint about their quality and the dealers honesty.

I will chime in fully, the puxing radios are chinese made knockoffs of motorola portables. Several hams I know have them and have tried and tried again to offload them. The audio quality is poor, they are not type accepted (they can only be used on the ham bands), and I have seen at least 4 different component level failures in them. They have a ton of features that are a cross between FRS and Ham options, and they are quite confusing to operate.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

It's not the 888 you asked about, but https://www.argentdata.com/catalog/p...products_id=74 ( Puxing PX-777 PLUS VHF Handheld Radio - Argent Data Systems - APRS Hardware ) has a Puxing PX-777 with FCC Part 90 certification.

Why so cheap? Decent radios cost a whole lot more than that. If that's your price range, then something on the order of the Puxing's are as good as it gets.

Legal to possess? Yes. Legal for ham bands? Yes. Legal for commercial / public safety? No. Legal to import? No. But once they're here in your hands, no one is gonna take it unless you do something stupid with it.

l was able to get a Vertex VX-150 HT (2M amateur band only) for around $100, and it's a great radio. But that's about as good as it gets for that price. The overwhelming suggestion you're going to hear is save your money and buy a better radio later.

Default Try the Yaesu FT-60R

The Yaesu is an incredible handheld for a decent price, and it is fully legal in the USA! It is full featured, with great audio and transmit capabilities. You should take a look.
