2009 Calif. Capital Air Show Approaching
Less that a week to go for the 2009 CCAS. Air Force Week has already started and i for one will be listening and looking for aircraft. It's pretty late in the air show season and the Monitoring Times Frequency Guide is already out online. Here's a link FYI
Milcom Monitoring Post: Monitoring Times 2009 Airshow Guide Available Online
I'm gonna tune up a few of my Aviation radios to monitor Mather a bit more and i'll ve streaming both on my original stream and the new RR one. Planning to put some serious time into being out there to see it all too. Maybe i'll actually even get to meet some of ya'll. (I know i keep sayin that, but I'm tryin.) Going to be pushing 100 degrees by the weekend so bring your sunscreen. Can't wait! Got a ride during the Prelim Media event last month and was cool. Sounds like this will be the best one ever.

Updates to the Thunderbirds frequency can be found here:
Milcom Monitoring Post: Thunderbirds
Don't forget to do a forum search on 'Mather' for more information from previous years. I'll post some profiles in the next couple of days.
Will anyone be bringing a BR330T?

Anyone want to meetup before/during the airshow? I'm thinking about going for Friday practice and Saturday show.
Who else is going?
I don't see a lot of differences radiowise for this show from what I've already posted in the older threads.

I was there Today (Thursday) Saw the KC-10, C5, KC-135 and B52 come in. F22 did a flyby. T28's and the Patriots did media fpights as well as some other light planes. The remaining planes of the Tbirds arrived around 1 m and gave us a show. Pretty neet stuff. I'll ve be out there tomorrow and both days. I'll be in a black Cowboy hat if anywone wants to meet up. Gonna see what i can see/scan. Wanted to try out a new antenna, but forgot it at the last minute. Gonna bring it tomorrow i'll try to get some of the stuff up on my Youtube page. Planning on going both days also.

I'll be around town all weekend, so I would probably go Saturday if at all. I live really close to the airfield so I can see a lot of the activity, and I usually sit on top of my office on Bradshaw between Goethe and Keifer and watch. Plus it's free.
I'd be in for a meetup. Not sure if I'm actually going to the show, so maybe before - but would depend on when you're going. I got a call from SSD (screen name, not the agency) aka "Vincent" who was interested in meeting up as well possibly Saturday.

I will be working (scanner on hand) Saturday with our CERT team at one of two first aid tents on the flight line. Come on by and say hello.
Yesterday, I did pick up some transmissions from the T-birds and will be monitoring today for further fine tuning (job location is off of Sunrise/White Rock).

I am likely to be working either at Lost and Found or Medical Tent 2, although it may be subject to change.
Ask for me at the Lost and Found - first name is Mark. Hope to meet a few people from here at the event.

In Motorola trunking systems, they use zone and mode. A zone could be a set of frequencies for an agency or part of one, and the mode would be the equivalent of a channel (more commonly called a talkgroup in trunking).

In this case it's even simpler. SSD has tac channels numbered 1-6. They call these 11 thru 16 because some of the radios have 'mode' buttons that correspond to these channels. 'MODE 16' button takes you to T6, and is called 16 or Mode 16. In this case, it's 13 and 15. Same setup. Our older X9000's have this setup, but the Spectra and MCS2000 do not.
In the case of a portable with a rotary channel selector, you rotate to channel 16 and you'll be there as well.
