Here's a first attempt at your channel map. Does TrunkView support split bands?

Channels 000 - 099: Base=451.00000, Channel Size=12.5kHz
Channels 100 - 199: Base=452.00000, Channel Size=12.5kHz
Channels 200 - 299: Base=452.00000, Channel Size=12.5kHz
Channels 300 - 399: Base=457.97500, Channel Size=12.5kHz
Channels 400 - 499: Base=458.63750, Channel Size=12.5kHz
Channels 700 - 799: Base=445.60625, Channel Size=12.5kHz

It looks like channels 0-299 cover the lower 450MHz, channels 300-499 cover the 460 band, and channels 700-799 (probably 500 - 799) are the narrowband (6.25kHz offset) overlay covering the channels in between 0-299. I wonder why they used a different base frequency for channels 0-99 and 100-299??

Here are all of the systems that you have posted so far, along with their channel number and frequency:

That's going to be a LOT to parse through. You want to look in 451-453 and 454-455. Anything else if of no interest. As-is you're going to get all business band traffic; how will you know what's PG&E.

It's possibly a system-wide channel map. As mobiles communicate with the site controller, the site controller only has to reference the channel number, and the radio will use the map to determine which frequency to use.

When a mobile is on one site and needs to roam to a new site, it'll use the neighbor messages to determine the best neighbor site and control channel number and then switch to that site's control frequency.

Likewise, when the mobile wants to place a call, the site controller will tell the mobile which channel to use for the call. Each site will still be limited to their set of FCC licensed frequencies, but each of those frequencies will correspond to a channel number, and the site controller will use those channel numbers when talking to the mobiles.

System ID - Channel - Frequency
5081 - 444 - 464.18750
5089 - 168 - 454.10000

Denny
Hi Denny, thank you for the terrific effort! Unfortunately, site 50B1 - Ch 170 is actually 454.11875 (confirmed with multiple scanners from multiple locations). I am suspecting the channel bandplans may be regionally based rather than categorized by frequency, but I'm not sure exactly how an MPT-1327 radio stores its bandplans... I just know they can hold a lot of them.

As for TrunkView, do you know how to differentiate between radio IDs and talkgroup IDs in the logs?

090930 LMIT 1169 Limit Search 454.287500 talking about bad transformer in oroville
070531 LMIT 1169 Limit Search 454.250000 talking about 12kv circut
090930 LMIT 1169 Limit Search 454.287500 said his name calling north valley, have bad transformer and then gave fuse number
091546 LMIT 1169 Limit Search 454.250000 north valley 1756-main? radio check two people talking
095417 LMIT 1169 Limit Search 454.037500 Delta 1( heli) to rock creek, landing at camp 1 then flying to butte canal and di salblow(which i think is a dam)
I have noticed that whenever the channel clears, there is a short data burst followed by a long string of morse code, audio seems really good, sometimes there is long pauses between audio but the carrier stays open between users, there is no roger beep type of unkey signaling, multiple channels had lots of audio checks and a few where changing channels due to one side had bad audio recieve.
cross referenced audio times with win500 activity log, it appears all channels are reporting the ctcss of 196.6 with the talk of anything power related, and the radio check channels, which will make these easier to follow.

That's so cool! I had no idea this system is already so active!

Activity on my Mt Tamalpais trunkview logs tonight!

System 50B1 - PL 196.6

Adjacent Sites:
50A9 Ch 703
50C1 Ch 172
50D1 Ch 196
50D9 Ch 169
50F9 Ch 197

System frequencies known so far:

Ch 170 - 454.11875 (Control)
Ch 182 - 454.26875 (Voice)
Ch 210 - 454.61875 (Voice)

Trunkview has also seen GTCs to voice channels Ch 376 and Ch 461.

The site bandplan is as follows:

Base Freq: 451.99375 MHz
Step Size: 12.5 KHz (0.0125 MHz)

Trunkview only has one bandplan input per site. Assuming this is correct, that would make:
Ch 376 = 456.69375
Ch 461 = 457.75625

These need to be verified because they fall into what is normally the +5 MHz repeater input frequency range for UHF business band (455-460 MHz). However, it's safe to say nothing is conventional about this system. Also voice Ch 182 - 454.26875 MHz unfortunately suffers bleed-over from a Mototrb Connect Plus control channel on the adjacent 454.2625 MHz frequency (belonging to Fisher Wireless Teamtalk Networks).

So far, only one talkgroup has been seen:

1-6714 - Appears to be PG&E electric dispatch in downtown San Francisco.
Talking about manhole covers 100 ft south of Harrison St.

Radios seen:

1-80
1-1536
1-2140

(Note: I am adding the system prefix (001) in the logs ahead of the dash, much like the status bit in LTR or the first two digits of the AFS ID in EDACS systems. This is the general talkgroup and radio ID format used in the RR database.)

Relevant log file snips are below. I'm not sure yet what's up with the ACK | General Acknowledgement between Org: 1644 and Tar: 8136. Apparently in the MPT-1327 standard groups 8136-8180 are designated as "spares for the customization of systems."

FYI, I was able to get Trunkview to display the proper frequency next to the Ch number by going to Options -> Site Database, and adding the site name, ID, CCh freq and bandplan. You can also create system profiles but I haven't had much luck with that yet.

This may help us down the road:

How to convert ID numbers?

Apparently these systems often use the MPT1343 display format for talkgroups and radio IDs, and Comint was nice enough to delve into the MPT1327 standard to explain the conversion process.

Ran TrunkView overnight on 50B1 (Mt Tamalpais).

Frequencies:

Ch 170 - 454.11875 (CC)
Ch 182 - 454.26875 (v)
Ch 210 - 454.61875 (v)
Ch 376 - ???
Ch 461 - ???

There must be a split bandplan because Ch 376 isn't 456.69375, nor is Ch 461 457.75625.

Talkgroups:

0-6101
1-6712
1-6713
1-6714 - SF Electric Dispatch?
1-6813
1-6815
1-6914
8136 - Custom system specific (from MPT1327 standard)

Radios:

1-80
1-1091
1-1116
1-1277
1-1397
1-1446
1-1505
1-1512
1-1536
1-1833
1-1953
1-2005
1-2135 (on 1-6914)
1-2137
1-2139
1-2142
1-2238
1-2420
1-2641
1-3394
1-4160
1-4164
1-4284

Also spotted some ACKX (Acknowledge, message rejected) messages from a radio with prefix 002 (2-703) on target ID 8185 (Trunkview just says "Registration Ident", but the target ID is in the MPT standard). This is why I suspect Tar:8136 is some kind of similar system function, although unfortunately the MPT1327 standard just calls it a "spare for system customization."

Pretty active system!

Alright, my turn...

For those of you searching 454MHz, please update your spacing to 6.25 accordingly. Your freq should end in five digits (see below).

Spacing is always 12.5kHz / Base freq equal to Chan 0 / Freq calculations apply system-wide

Base 451.99375 / Channels confirmed 167-206
Base: 457.975 / Channels confirmed 306-313
Base: 458.6375 / Channels confirmed 378-444

Be sure to use headphone audio, not discriminator audio. Most use a CTCSS tone which ruins decoding for discriminator audio.

I use headphone audio on all my logging and recording, i tried using unitrunker, but could not figure it out, but if someone could explain, im willing to try again and let it run awhile. Does unitrunker use the headphone audio, or the ccdump thru the usb cable?

I also tried unitrunker with no luck . I got it to decode the CDC system with no problem, but unitrunker wouldnt.
