Default World leaders and celebrities in (where else than) Pebble Beach on Sunday

This coming Sunday Tony Blair, Bono, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John McCain, and the Governator are all gonna be in Pebble Beach.

If only I had a digital-enabled scanner.

Secret Service (and probably Diplomat Protection) are gonna be on scene watching the whole thing go down.

Yep... I'll be monitoring frequencies that are using digital this weekend if I make it over that way.

Default Monitor for CAPS!

It's kinda of fun to listen to your local ATC centers when big wigs are in town. Since Yesterday two ANG F-16's have been flying Combat Air Patrols over PM Blair wherever he goes, taking a TFR (Temp Flight Restriction) area with them. You'll hear callsigns "Gasket", and "Jumper", in CA.

Today Oakland center says stuff like,

"American 1187 clear direct MOXEY, caution traffic at 10000 feet, two F-16's heading 090."

My favorite was a couple of months ago when GW was in town, an older Piper pilot who said, "Restricted? I fly this way all the time and it is not restricted."

The response from the center was, "Sir, I stongly encourage you to turn to heading 040."

Then Gasket 44 came up on the air, "What is the heading of that aircraft, Oakland Center?"

The old man stated, "Oh now I get it, 0-4-0!"

I wish I had recorded it!

If you have a good mil air band scanner and antenna, you can also try searching for the air to air comms for the ANG. If someone grabs the freq post it up! These guys get pretty bored turning rectangles at 10000 feet for 4 hours, then refueiling to do it for 4 more. They tend to chat it up about you name it....it can be funny.

Hmm... Well, I did hear a radio test this morning (actually just 10 minutes ago @ 0800) on 147.1500 had a PL of maybe 167.9? (the scanner flashes it and I only saw it for literally half a second). I caught the tail end of it, but it said "____ Repeater Test. 8:00." There's some guys talking about water on 147.1800, 110.9 PL.

What should I search for on the quick search for? Maybe 160-170 MHz with a 5 kHz step, Modulation turned to NFM?

If I get any of those I'll post them.

I just pasted the custom search ranges from my .usc file below. Scankid, you can open up your .usc file and paste these in.

F-16's seem to chat in the 138-144/AM and 148.0-150.8/AM bands.

I have also pasted a snippet from my .usd file for the 144th, enjoy

Default Air to Air chats

Make sure you are monitoring 121.500 AM.

Any time I've picked them up they've been in the military UHF AM band. I recall 357.0 Mhz as being one. I see you have the 144th there....good start. I'll bet they have air to air chats in the UHF range too. In addition, I'm not sure who'd be refueling them, but typically whetever the normal refuleing corridors are in that area would be used, with the same freqs.

Here's a site which will give you and idea where to start. Nothing for CA, but AZ is mentioned:

http://www.milaircomms.com/uhf_cap.html

Good luck! I'm in San Fran, so probably too far to do anything.

edit: I found the refuel track for off the coast: AR634 and Track 6 which shows ops freqs of:

235.1000 AM
319.5000 AM
352.6000 AM
Here's the corridor map:

I'd be willing to wager it's the Civil Air Patrol, which has nothing to do with the dignitary stuff you were trying to catch.

Hmm... I wonder what CAP was doing around here...

Also, I just heard a P25 transmission on 167.7875. If I'm not mistaken that's a Homeland Security freq.

I wonder who's here.

Default Ahnold

Everytime he's in SoCal his security team uses 460.375S 127.3; also 460.45S has been reported in use.

Does S stand for Simplex? Is it analog or P25?

Default Simplex

Howdy. "S" does equal simplex. Apologies for the confusion. Let us know what you hear. Thanks!

Will do.

Hopefully it's not gonna be P25 transmissions because I don't have a decoder.

I also learned that the British detail was using a TETRA portable repeater system and
portables for that particular protection detail.
