Default Puerto Rico Statewide 700 MHz TRS

An inside source told me several months ago, that the Puerto Rico State Police were planning to construct a new digital radio system. This new TRS will include all public safety first responders, and place them on a common interoperable wireless communications platform. Currently pending before the FCC are the following:

Application 1

Application 2

From what I can gather, this will be a nine-site simulcast system. If anyone knows the geography of the island and has time to examine the location details on these applications, will these two license requests cover the entire commonwealth? I suspect that more sites will be forthcoming in the future.

73,

Ron

Well, yes that have been the plans for the PRPD for a long long time and could be long more. The PREMA is doing the same thing on 700mhz (PSIC Grant), the equipment is being install. A 9 site system based on the island geography is not enough, the current statewide system used by the FD and the PD is 21 sites. So 9 probably will just cover the metropolitan area.

I wonder if this is going to be a 700/800 MHz mixed band system? I wonder if Motorola or Harris got the contract to build the infrastructure?

Ron

In my 2012 budget a P25 Digital scanner! Right now there is not enough communication in P25 to justify the inversion. I hope that means the ending of Johnson LTR that is a pain to monitor.

Any status updates with this system? It's been in the database for over 3 years and there's hardly any information on it. If there is a control channel on the air, I'd like to get the database updated with the System ID, WACN, Site #'s, etc. Thanks/gracias.

When passing by on a cruise ship last week, I found numerous trunked radio sites. One or more came up as P25. I really did not pay a lot of attention to the freqs. Probably Uncle Sam paid for this system.

Recently, this Project 25 TRS was found to be online in and around San Juan. Any information concerning systems users, talkgroups, and what it is used for would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
