Default Anyone Keep Their FCC License?

Hello All:

I posted this in another thread quite a while ago on the old RR site version, but thought it would be good to bring it back here for discussion again. I tried to get a copy of the FCC CB license that I had been issued back in the mid 70's from the FCC archives, but alas those are all long gone according to them.

I still remember my FCC issued call sign (KFN8417), but really wanted to have a copy of that old 1-page paper license for nostalgia purposes in my shack. Anyone here lucky enough to have kept their old FCC CB license that cost $20 back in the 70's?

Yup, I still have mine, Effective 2-7-75. but the call numbers KMA 2913 go back 5 or more years before that when the license was $ 4, I think. I was so happy with the call sign because it started with KMA- just like on Dragnet and Adam-12. LOL. I still have my original base station, Radio Shack TRC-X23 ( Courier 23) and fire it up once a week, . I worked for Radio Shack while in high school. 1968-69. Don

Heck no! I threw mine away as soon as they dropped the requirement. I wish I'd kept it now.

I have two licenses. KLH-8803 was issued 8/11/64 when we lived in base housing at NAS Cecil Field FL. Due to my zip code as FPO, NY,NY, I used my home address in KS, hence the KLH from FCC Zone 11. I actually used a Unit # from my dads license for two years prior to '64, but he and mom came to visit in late July of '64 and he had a license for me to fill out. There were still several call signs in older FCC format in use through '69. I recall one in Jax as 7Q-1199. I think this changed in '62 to xxx-####

I let the first license expire a few months so FCC required me to use my VA residence, thus new call sign KCW-6554 issued 12/19/69. This license was reissued on 11/22/74 when we were living in base housing at Guantanamo Cuba. I think licensing was suspended for CB at this time but the base communications office required a valid FCC license before COMNAVGTMO would issue a license for us to use the radio on base. I had a radio in two autos, one at residence and one at my work office. Also had antennas at latter two locations. Had a 10 element Hi Gain at my residence. We spent a 1 year tour at NS Roosevelt Roads PR in '67/'68 and had the Hi Gain up at on base residence also.

I still have a 4 inch thick, 4 ring binder with near 500 QSL cards, mostly skip when 5 watts worked very well long range. Much of this was skip was at the two Caribbean assignments because those issuing permits could care less other then identifying our location.

I found my license a number ofyears ago and put it away for safe keeping, but it is must be really safe, I cant find it now..KXJ1927...
Still toy with CB on the channels, local and skip, seems to be more on it in the last few years, really loaded when skip comes on regular chnls, and upper and lowers, and the equipment better than ever, and works well...

I wish the FCC would've still enforce a license to operate the CB Radio. The mouthy crap that I hear over the air waves is just horrible.

Yup, I quite CB when the term "I'm Steppen" (Ebonics for Stepping ) became common prior to releasing the mike button.

Well atleast we know the bubble packs FRS and GMRS are the ones these kids are getting now for trash talking but for adult trash talking its on the CB radio down the highway.... I usually hear alot of things when im traveling down to charlotte mecklenburg from the greensboro area. If the FCC requires CB users to have a license I wonder how long radio silence will go until every trucker decides "I cant stand being off the CB, im getting a license"

I think the better question would be, how many would just decide screw it and continue operating unlicensed?

Default Children's Band Radio

I still have my license - KXQ1626. I remember when they started to use a person's initials followed by their zip code - what a joke. There were plenty of people with the same combination.

What makes you think enforcing having a license would also mean enforcing bad language (and other things)? It sure didn't back in the day.

Which it why Uncle Charlie threw his hands up in disgust and dropped the license requirement in the first place.

gmclam,
The initials-zip code thing was intended to be a temporary ID until one received their license.

Why after all these years do I sitll remember mine, KCJ9091, when I can't remember what I haad for lunch yesterday?

REALLY. I dunno know just whatever happened to the FCC license that we had for our CB radios in the early 70s.

I can still remember the truck drivers who rolled into my town asking for the local fa--ots. I used to give them directions to a gay bar. Those rednecks hated me for that, but their catcalls were getting old.
