Oh my God! Thank you so much Forts... I just shed a tear, seriously, because that is so funny.

Haha yeah I got quite a kick out of it too when I first watched the movie. Then I got the 'huff' and 'Oh My God you are a loser for noticing that' eye roll from my wife when I pointed it out to her

What, they couldn't go the extra mile and make a title for that system/group? Or turn off the DOT search button? I didn't notice any of that the first time through, I'll have to watch it again this weekend sometime.

Talking Real Id10t, LOL!

Yeah,

I got sucked into watching her video. She really must be a chucklehead. She had a mag-mount antenna atop that "CB" radio!
Mag-mounts USUALLY have very strong magnetic fields to hold them to the metal of a vehicle. Transistors & integrated circuits don't stand a chance in such a magnetic field and are destroyed. So, the Id10t just nuked her radio, .

Now, when someone assist them in hooking the transceiver up, it will be toast. Another classic case of terminal stupidity.

If she can't find an information on CB radio's on the Internet, she needs to quit using that TI-99A, LOL!

"I called my stockbroker this morning and asked, So, what are you buying?
He replied, Rifles, pistols, shotguns, lots of ammo and canned goods.
I said, Sounds like a PLAN to me."

Gahhhhhh! Some people's kids!

Yep. He tuned his BCT-15 to 66.6 MHz and proceed to talk into a mic. I can't figure out where to plug the mic in my 996T anywhere. ``v

That was Die Hard 2 actually Die Hard 3 was the one about the riddles and puzzles.

He found one that was scrambled and later he found one that had the "code" punched in already so he could listen in.

What's funny, now that you mentioned, Die Hard 2 had some very convincing, if not pretty legit radio talk going on. I remember the soldiers of fortune setup their own air traffic center at a church and disabled/destroyed the real traffic tower's communications. So then they decided to switch their voice tx frequency over to the beacon frequency and boost the power to overcome the beacon or at least get enough voice in so that the pilots could here.

I was trying to figure out what kinds of HT's the bad guys were using, so they were a Vertex radio, eh? Cool and bright little green and red LED's on them and what looked like a BNC connector.

oh my bad, D2.

Thought they all had kenwood and the one he found off that maintenance guy that found one listening in on the traffic but vertex, I thought vertex didnt exist back then until what? the millennium i could be wrong, maybe there were sucky models then until the new ones came in now.

Um Die Hard 3 was when he was in New york? HT750s and huge P110s or were they P25? I cant remember.

HT..

Im guessing HT1000

Heh, actually, when you said "vx scrambler" before I thought you meant a vertex scrambler on the radio but now I am think you meant voice/vox scramber (smacks head).

Yeah, Die Hard 3 was in New York with the brother or cousin, whatever, of the villain from the first Die Hard. I don't really remember the radios in that movie. Depending on who writes and directs these things, they often do a fine job of not emphasizing some things, radios being one of them however in Die hard 2 and 4 they were prominently displayed. But anyway, even if I did notice the radios from DH3, I wouldn't have known if they were P25 or not unless there was a radio showing some sign of such a setup.

Wow, we've really geeked out on the radio on Die Hard haven't we?

Default CBs and Movies

Since this thread seems to be heading that way, I have another movie to talk about. In Twister one scene depicts two of the main characters (I can't remember which) arguing over the CB. The camera zooms in to the CB, but apparently "someone" forgot to turn the thing on (blank display).

That sounds about right (It's been 10+ years since I saw it).

They've been showing it recently somewhere on TV, if I catch it again, I'll have to keep an eye on that. Ever since I started getting into radio REALLY heavily, I've started noticing any use of two-way radios in movies and TV I've watched recently.

That my friend is the theory that given enough decibels through some unknown occurrence in quantum mechanics, your voice will be converted into electromagnetic signals and will radiate away, amplified by the radio and antenna and hence being received by the other parties. Another thing only possible with the HIPER system.

Back on D4 when it deals with the cyber crimes, was that really a CB station sitting in that guys room "the command center" or was it another huge scanner?

I think we should create a new thread to let this thread that was originally intended for the CBs going instinct, anyone agree? lets just put one in the general area or wherever it seems suitable so this thread can die out... but hey this is fun to discuss about movies and these radios/scanners they use lol

Go for the new thread in general discussion, I actually did an article on ham radio in TV shows and movies, but nothing like what we're discussing. I have no clue what that radio was on Kevin Smith's command center in D4.
