Need advice in these CB handhelds

The place I work at just threw these away. They run on 4 aa and have volume, squelch but trying them out 50ft apart one hear the other faintly and the other hears only static, no break at all.

I was wondering if they could be used as a SHTF comm to other CBers Albright only two channels, (I use MURS for my handhelds) and if they are worth taking to a shop if I can find one to test them?

Probably not worth it. With new 40 channel Midland 77-785's going for $32, it's hard to see how going through any trouble and $hop time would be worth it.

One idea is to sell'em on ebay and use the proceeds to buy a new unit. Surely somebody out there has a retro-need for these and has just got to have them.

Much appreciated. I had no idea CB handhelds were that cheap. I think I will try the eBay route for the heck of it.
