• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have been working on this rig for almost a month now. It has good TX with great Mod, but I can not hear anyone. I hear static on it, but never hear anyone talking and it is hooked to a good antenna. I have replaced the audio chip, but didn't do anything to it.

Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Maybe one of the adjustment pots on the inside of the radio got turned down? I was having received audio issues with another radio. It would receive but it was hard to understand most other stations except the strongest ones. Found the two pots on the board for it and adjusted them so everyone sounded clear. But if I turned them to far one way I could hear nothing.

Hello 25537: Trouble shooting from behind the keyboard isn't easy or the way to do it.

Here are some suggestions that might help.

Does the S-Meter work showing local stations are on the air? If so maybe a possible the Squelch is turned up too high, or the external speaker jack will only work with a external speaker. Worth trying a external speaker out.

By operating the controls and switches on the radio, will this bring up the audio?

While the radio is on, can you lightly tap the radio and listen for recived audio?

The Push to Talk (PTT) switch in the mic may have some sort of problem, try a another mic?

Is the RF Gain is turned all the way down (counter clock wise) ?

Can you switch thru the channels and then hear just a few channels?

A technican will put in a signal at the antenna jack and trace the signal thru the radio to find were it isn't, and repair the radio. May not cost too much.

Hope this helps, as not being there to share war stories, talk and annoy everyone for hours on end, and leavy way too late.
