Default Guess what contact I made this evening?

While listening in on 27.185(ch19),I heard someone in an aircraft, with the call name;Skycap.I asked his location,he was 10miles to the north of Tulsa,Ok,on a westward heading,at 22,000 FL(flight level).40 miles to the Northwest of me.I asked what type aircraft;get this,,,He said I am a USAF C-130,talking to multiple counties, and truckers on their HF radio! no joke,I would'nt have thought much about it,being on ch-19,and such, but,I have heard him before,a couple of years ago,and could not make contact.Keep in mind,I am also an avid Mil-Air monitor as well. You could hear his conversation with other stations, seemed like forever, til he finally faded out.Cool stuff!

They get bored and do that. We used to have a regular on 2 meters pass through here..And yes, he was a ham..

I've operated from a private plane before.. It's a blast..

Just to clarify, 22,000 feet is flight level 220. Flight level 22,000 would be 2,200,000 feet, just a little higher than a C-130 can fly.

EXCELLENT! Military aircraft radios are frequency agile so with a "twist of the dial" they go anywhere. Trouble is they deliver more than the legal maximum. (;->) I've spoken to aeronautical mobiles but not on CB, 2M is bad enough but with such a huge footprint the noise in his ears was horrendous, I'll bet he'll never try THAT again.

I'd do 2m aero again. We did it for field day one year. Flying over Illinois, I worked all the neighboring states. It was interesting how we were "rare DX" when they heard we were operating from a plane.

Back in the mid 70's, I was working as a radio/ TV service tech in Peru, IN. and one of our part-time techs was a radio tech @ Grissom AFB outside of town. He came into work one day and was talking about a conversation he had with one of our customers the night befoe on a CB channel. The customer lived just south of the fence of the base. They talked to each other for about an hour while the tech did his 'radio check' @ over 1KW each!!!!!!
