Default TRAM D201 TUNEING HELP

Not knowing much about a Tram D201 how would you tune in channels above 23 on the manual turning dial. If it has 55 channels in it how would this work if the dial goes to 23 or 40 numbers? Thanks Ron

Hello Ron: These Tram Radios that have the frequency mod will require you use a frequency counter that will tell you were your at. Most have a list telling the switch positions Vs the frequency.

And some Tram Radios used a external VFO for sliding around on the upper frequencies. But the Transmitter tuning circuits like in most of the older tube radios, are a bit narrow, so off channel use you will see some transmit power loss.

The Tram D201A the 40 channel radios have a siginificant channel switch in them that will go bad in time, and some use.

The Tram D201 23 channel radios have a less complicated channel switch and do not seem to have the problems the D201A has. Be advised.

After repairing my D201A, and modifying it so that the clarifier operates both the Rec and Transmit I could see a difference in power from CH 12 to CH 40. It soulds like a Broadcast Transmitter with great audio, and I left it along after all that repair work. As these radios are what 35 years old and getting older.

You can buy a cheap frequency counter these days for about $12. I have one and it works. Of course it's Chinese but so what? At that price anyone can afford it.

I have a counter but just trying to learn from the best. Thanks all maybe I'll get it.
Thanks all but this is my concern. This is a D201 which has 23 channels on the crystal dial but the manual dial looks to be a D201A TYPE dial. I'm thinking the dial was changed or something.
I put it on 12 crystal setting, manual on knob and tune to 12 with the manual dial with cal out. When it is between beats should the manual dial be the dial to use? Do I leave the crystal dial on 12 put the cal in and turn the manual knob to tune? I was told it was moded to 55 but never tried. It looks tike it transmits even if I put it on 27.501. Now it get a list of channels and their frequencies. I will double check with frequency counter. Thanks Ron

I bought the radio with it being modded but found out while it was in shipping. I wanted to basically know how to use the mod even though all I do is stay on 20. I want to find a list of frequencies channel 1-55 or more just to have. Thanks all for you help Ron
