Question PA system without CB radio

Hey guys! I’m new to the forum and I got some questions. I’ve been looking into installing a pa system in my car just as a little project. There is really no daily practical use for it…only than to goof around and/or piss off j-walkers or annoying drivers. I know you can get a CB radio with PA abilities, but I really don’t want a whole CB radio installed in the car. So I was wondering if there was a way to have a PA system without the CB radio. My initial thought was to use a momentary rocker switch (mounted on my center console near the shifter) and the stock Bluetooth mic (which is mounted near the front dome light); however, I don’t know if this can be done.

I’m not knowledgeable with how PA systems work, so I need to know what all the system will need to consist of. That is if this setup can be done and is not too expensive (cheaper than the CB radio + PA speaker route).

Thanks for the knowledge and advice!

Go to ebay and buy a used siren and speaker. That will give you about 100watts instead of a few puny watts a cb Pa will give you along with many other annoying noises to use.

Be sure to save back a little money after buying your PA. You'll need it for the tickets you'll receive. (Depending on your local laws.)

@KT4EB it says you're from Huntsville, Alabama...is that true cause that is where I'm located??

I'm not going to be driving around looking for random people walking down the road to yell at. If I'm driving down the road and have a green light and someone decides to just cross the road in front of me, that's when I'll use the PA. If someone crosses the road in front of me when I have the right away, then they obviously either don't care enough to respect the rules of the roads and me on it or they are ignorant and don't know the rules (Ignorance of the law is no excuse). So I will use the PA to respectfully inform them that they are in the wrong. As a pedestrian, you should know how and when to walk...and you should take responsibility for your actions.

And I’m not going to just let them get away with it because that's why they think they can do it. People believe they can do whatever they want regardless of the fact if it is right or wrong because they know that the majority of the time nobody will say anything. So if I say something to that person, then maybe they will think about it next time they blatantly walk in front of someone else’s vehicle.

This doesn’t only apply to j-walkers. If you’re driving home from work and some moron cuts you off without a blinker and can’t keep his/her lane and you can clearly see that person is texting, would you just say to yourself “You silly goose. Why would you do that?”? I’m 100% sure you wouldn’t. So as you just sit in your car and in your mind you go over all the things you would say to them, I’ll be the one who actually does say something. And I will say it in a respectful way because I am a respectful guy, and I do respect other people even when they probably don’t deserve it.

I don’t mean to go on a tiny rant, but I won’t sit here and let someone shoot down what I’m doing based on their biased imagination of what they think I’m doing. I am a new member to the forum, and I respect it and its members. So if you have any positive advice or knowledge for the topic of the thread then please feel free to chime in. However, if you don’t then please keep your comments to yourself.

Thank you.

Hello TT12: Yeah you want a real loud and proud PA System, one that will turn heads and make nut ball drivers wakwe up!

The CB set up doesn't have enough power to deliver the "loud and proud" performance your looking for.

Yoy need a surplus Cop Car or Fire Engine PA System that will gettie up and go. I bought a 80 watt PA Amp from the Ham Radio TRW Swap Meet near the LA Airport, it needs a really good outside high power PA Horn to deliver the goods. I burned up all kinds on cheap CB type horns, and a few that were rated for 30 watts. I finnialy got a 289.oo dollar PA Horn the size of a basketball, mounted just under the Radiator with a clear shot to the car in front, and man does this thing talk.

I don't use it a lot, but when I do its there if needed. Great for the CB & Ham radio get togethers and BBQ's. Tail gaters that get in front of me usually get a blast from the voice above and slow right down.

Feed back from the Incred-O PA System tell me its plenty Loud, yeah!

Good Luck

Don't spend too much that way you won't be out a lot of money after the police confiscate it, and maybe even your vehicle. Grow up.

OH come on. Let the guy have a little fun.
I have very fond PA-in-the-car memories.

In those days there was no ebay so the cheapest way to get a PA was in a CB radio. Used a weatherproof hailer from Radio Shack mounted under the car.

If you have a CB and your car gets searched, well "It's a CB radio, officer".
If you have a police siren, you're going to have a harder time explaining that.
The output on a CB PA isn't that great but in my experience, it was enough to get through to the person in the car in front of me. If you're lucky you'll have room under the hood for the speaker. The placement of that speaker will have a lot to do with how well you can make use of your limited power. I'm sure you can amplify it too with a little ingenuity.

WOW! Pedestrians have the right of way.... Even J-Walkers... If you hit one your gonna get a citation.

Yelling at the wrong person for cutting you off MAY incite some road rage and get you shot.

If you are so concerned with being a do-gooder and enforcing laws then go be a cop when you turn 21.

You're also going to run the risk of being the victim of a road rage incident, or even a jaywalker with a gun, regardless of how polite and respectful you are (or think you are) being to them. It's not worth it to try to correct their behaviour.

In this day and age, you would be dumb enough to taunt other people with a PA? Like others have said...good way to get shot. All around bad idea.

Hello TT12: One other thing, ya need to have the horn in full front view, if it mounted in the engine compartment not in full view, it will be significantly attenuated, and we don't want that!

For all you negative winnie types, a man needs to know his limits. You guys would have night mirs about my 450 watt 28 Volt Aircraft landing lights, (these lights arn't fom this world in incred-o brightness) they work great with the loud and proud PA System, among other things, hahahha, sorry I am in tears here..

Check you local laws first, you don't want to be a hypocrite.

(b) This section shall make no distinction between stopped, standing, parked or moving motor vehicles.

(c) Possession by a person of the sound amplification system in subsection (a) of this section shall be prima facie evidence that the person operated the system.

(d) Exemptions (1), (2), (3), (6) and (8) of section 12-262 shall apply to this section.

BTW, it has been proven time and time again that people who complain the most about other drivers are themselves some of the least courteous and most likely to commit traffic offenses.

My first inclination was to respond to this thread on the grounds of the legal and/or antagonistic aspects of using a PA in a car. But I didn't want to be the "bad guy", "stick-in-the-mud" or "party pooper." (Or worse, "Radio Police.") But I knew others would raise the issue. And they didn't let me down.

Just as in real life, on these forums it sometimes feels like those who would follow the law are "squares." People freely come onto these PUBLIC boards for suggestions on how to break one radio-related law or the other.

"I won’t sit here and let someone shoot down what I’m doing based on their biased imagination of what they think I’m doing."
(No imagination at all; you very clearly stated what you are intending, and it's potentially dangerous. "There is really no daily practical use for it…only than to goof around and/or piss off j-walkers or annoying drivers." Vehicles have horns to accomplish what you want to do.)

"So if you have any positive advice or knowledge for the topic of the thread then please feel free to chime in. However, if you don’t then please keep your comments to yourself."
(I assure you that your PA system will bring out similar but much less restrained reactions from your targets.)

"People believe they can do whatever they want regardless of the fact if it is right or wrong because they know that the majority of the time nobody will say anything. So if I say something to that person, then maybe they will think about it next time they blatantly walk in front of someone else’s vehicle."

"...I’ll be the one who actually does say something. And I will say it in a respectful way because I am a respectful guy, and I do respect other people even when they probably don’t deserve it."

If the irony of all of this is lost on you, you're missing out on some pretty funny stuff.

If you're a teenager, then have at it - it's a rite of passage, and I hope you survive it, as many of us did. But if you're much past the age of 21, you might spend some time considering the direction you're heading.

Sorry to jump all over you, a new member. People who know me here know that I rarely do this. But as in real life, sometimes it's all about attitude.
