By '77, it was already the short, simplified form and probably free. My last year working at RS, I had the task of filling out a sample form to put in the CB display gondola to show how easy it was to fill out the new form. They had little squares to write the name "Ray D Oshak" that I had to fill out per the interstore memo and put it in a plexiglas paper holder/stand.

CB: KBA-3151 in the early 70s, then KBPW-1117 right before they stopped licensing.

Class A (GMRS): KAE-9978 (still active)

Default KHT-9417

If my memory hasn't totally failed, mine was KHT-9417.

If someone runs into a 23 channel CB with a "channel 23-A" mod done to it and "KHT9417" scratched into the front of the microphone, lemme know.

Same with us in the Bronx! I remember doing homework over the air and studying for tests with other kids at my high school. There were so many people on CB in the '60s and early '70s, you would see CB antennas on almost every other block! Heck, even the local pizzeria had a CB in the back room!!

With all this internet, facebook, cell phone and stuff, sometimes I wish it were like the old days. Being connected to my good friends via radio waves (CB) was a part of my life that I wont soon forget.

I remember seeing a new antenna go up on someone's house and wonder what kind of radio they had. I even had the nerve to knock on the door to ask what their handle was. Young innocent kids can get away with that kind of stuff....I was 12 I think.

CB was my introduction on two-way communications. I was in High School in 74-75-76-77 and got my drivers license at 15 and a car around 16. I had a White 70 AMC Hornet with Green Fiberglass whip on the side of may car and a Midland CB and a little extra juice. I had two call signs. I can't remember call sign on the 1st one, but the 2nd one was KBU-7688 and my handle was Green Hornet. Quite a few people in High School had CB's back in those days. That was the social media of the day. I think I may have one of my other CB radio's I used in the 80's tuck away somewhere. Can't remember what happen to the Midland, but it was a great radio.
