My Dad was KBKF-9922. His handle was Firebear, as he was a fire police officer (crowd and traffic control) for one of the fire companies in our township. He had a 40-channel mobile in the station wagon, which had an extra receive-only channel that...

I remember I was so pissed because I had just missed having a 3-letter call. All the newer calls were 4-letters. I was 13 when I got it in '74 but I wanted to be like the long timers out there so when I said my call, I'd run the a in with the k to sound like KKL0138 so I could be cool too .

KQA-8234 here. That number is branded on my brain for eternity. I still get a kick out of picking up a cb at a tag sale or flea market in the box and the fcc application is in there. I was in grade school and everyone in my class had a cb. I begged my parents for one and so did my older brother. We got one, but that was our christmas present combined! The only unit they could afford was the trc-68, the mini-23. No meter, no nothing. Volume, channels, and squelch. Thats it. But we made do until we could get a better unit. I still have that mini to this day. A million bucks I wouldnt sell it for, even though its probably worth $15.

KADH5288 - Cost me $25 in 1976. Cost me a lot more in CB's (mobile & base stations), antennas & microphones during the next 5 years. Just picked up a new Cobra 148GTL and looking forward to being back on the air and getting my $25 worth. ;-)

Started with a short wave radio, and heard kids chatting on 27 "Mcs!" Got a walkie to try to contact them, and I finally succeeded one night at around midnight in a snowstorm. Begged mom for a radio, and finally got one from Lafayette. Lots of kids in my school had them, and we would sometimes even do our homework together over the air. It was great for a kid like me who was an only child, and suddenly had a load of kids around my age to talk to!

KDA-6263. Got it sometime around 1974 or 1975 when I was in Pensacola, Fl. Like others, it's etched in my memory as well.

Picked up a Kraco radio and had the FCC sticker on it with name and call sign. I won't post the name but the call sign is KPP-8966. Would be cool if that belonged to someone here.

OMG! Too long ago to remember what it was.
I used to race around in my V6 Ford Pinto like it was the Bandit's Trans Am.

hey that was almost too much motor for that car! My pop had a '74 Pinto wagon for a bit with that 2300cc 4banger. Extremely wimpy but somehow the simplicity of it was kinda nice. Fake wood slabs too lol

A place where you can search all the old call signs by name would be downright awesome. I thought mine was kqa-8234. I SWORE it was. My cousin has told me that was his. i don't know why his was so ingrained and I don't remember mine at all. Strange.

It would be great! I remember that I also had a WPE call sign that I got from Popular Electronics magazine. It was a registry that they had for short wave listeners, way back when!
