CPD "Robert" Units
I have been doing some listening recently since becoming sick with a bad spring cold. I have done some listening in the past and think I am starting to catch on to these "R" - Robert units.
Listening to my local zone, I only hear these units overnight until the early morning watch which comes out of roll call around 7AM / 7:30AM. Now, usually, cars in a district have to stay on their assigned beats, but I learned long ago that due to the manpower shortage it has become a practice to allow the overnight units to answer calls on any beat so long as they could get there quickly.
This seems to have worked out nicely, to everyone's benefit including the community at large. That "R" either stands for "Overnight Rapid Response Team" or "R" for no assigned district primary beat. I can also speculate that that "R" could also have something to do with the watch schedule. What else these units do that needs to be applauded is that the districts overnight seem to have combined as a very talented team of back-up, rapid response at the district borders to help each other out sort of like a mutual aid situation.
Any comments, new points on the "R" Units and their meaning? Am I close or way off?

Ah ha...I knew you'd get this one! Their are a select few Districts that have been implemnting a new work schedule. Because some of these beats "overlap", they use the "R" (Robert) designation for the 1st Watch cars. However, during the day, that same "R" Robert desigantion may be used for a Incident Car. Confused...? That seems the way they like it..lol. Or how bout this one...41S07....hmmm? 42G69A...hmm? How would you like to be yelling out all those numbers in a foot chase? I hope when the Digital Trunking system for CPD takes life, each District get's a Talkgroup to avoid confusion. ? Oops wait...what CPD Digital Trunk System? Nawwww...I must be dreaming...LOL.

Hey Shades,
I'm going to guess that those 41S07 and 42G69A are going to predicably be Detective Division cars specialized as "S"=Saturation specialized to some specific job having to do with guns, gangs, drugs, etc. "G"= Gang Units assigned to area Detective Divisions.
My guesses are based on the old 41, 42, 43, 44, and 45S = Saturation Units. G has always been and will always be Gangs, this IS Chicago, lol. Am I warm?

Pretty close...they follow the Area Deputy Chief desigantions and are assigned to the Area. However, it's very possible they will travel outside the Area for Search Warrants, other gang supression missions etc. As everyone knows, Chicago is a very political city and as soon as all hell breaks loose in one part of the city, you'll see these units start making street stops, arrests etc. to create activity...and Event Numbers! The "G" is actually Area Gun Units...however their missions all blend together anyway. If the see a hand-to-hand transcation, it's not like they won't make an arrest. If you hear one of these units on the Zone you happen to be monitoring, keep an ear to them and it'll give you an idea as to what their working. Hey I can't give away all my trade secrets on here...take away all the fun.
