Okay, I have been coming to Chicago for about 5 years and I have always noticed these blue lights flashing on the side of telephone polls. So now I am asking.... What are they for? I would image that they have to do with the police being that they are blue. But why are they always on and never seem to be reset? Are they on a system like the fire pull boxes?

That is the Chicago Police surveillance system. It has video and sound. As for the constant blue light, i'm not sure, maybe so they are clearly visible. If the thing is blinking and the suspect knows a camera is there, it's likely to deter him somewhere else to commit his crime. However some drug dealers just don't care, CPD has busted many open air ops by clearly listening to the drug dealers from the cameras.

It’s Big Brother’s cameras watching over Chicago..LOL..They are called PODS and are used in high crime areas to reduce violence, they first appeared around the high rise CHA project’s in the mid 90’s to detect gunshots. Ever since they have popped up all around the city. The upper command can monitor them from their squad cars also OEMC, over the years they have became smaller it used to be the size of a mini fridge and easy to spot, sometimes they work most of the time they don’t. If you are monitoring CPD and they say that they are doing a POD mission that means they are monitoring the cameras in their district hope that explains it all.

In some cities in northern ill. there are large gray boxes on utility poles in various neighborhoods. They are head end amplifiers for comcast cable and when the red light is flashing,it indicates a problem with the power supply. Not quite as mysterious,lol!
