Default Railroad police

Hi, I would like to know why in Chicago you almost never hear the RR Police operate on any of there VHF channels? Do they use nexttell or as I call it Nexthell? So far the onley RRPD's I have heard on VHF are Metra and Amtrak. Please let me know what is going on thank you.

You pretty much answered your own question. Been this way for several years. All RRPD's still have their old VHF radio's but rarely, if ever use them except to contact train crews. The IHB, NS still use 160.545 in Illinois. Just about all depts.now have MDT/PDT's in their squads.

Amtrak RR police still use VHF inside Union Station. That's the only one I've heard though.

Ok, how would the RR Police run a want/warrent cheeck other then using a MDT/PDT? Would use the nextells, call in on the road chanel, or would they use the local police raido systems to run want/warrent cheecks?

I have heard RRPD's come up on CPD zones in the past so, yes, they do have channels in their portables or mobiles for other LE agencies.
