Im not sure how many are near us here in Eastern Kentucky specifically Pike County, but we are trying to organize an amateur radio club here in the county. The main purpose of the club will be providing back up communications for the county during emergencies, but if we can get enough participation, we would like to provide amateur testing and other various public functions. If you are in or near the area and are interested, send me a message.

Have you been in touch with Allen Epling WB4WAU? It appears that he's the ARES Emergency Coordinator for Pike County. If not him, you might try Johnnie Brashear KY4JLB. He's the Assistant Section Emergency Coordinator for eastern Kentucky. His phone number and email can be found here.

If there's already an active ARES group in the county, it may make more sense to get involved with them than to form your own group. Pike County isn't all that big, population-wise, so the pool of amateur radio operators that you can draw from is very limited. There are 155 licensed hams in Pike County according to QRZ.com.

You may also want to take a look at the Kentucky Mountains Amateur Radio Club in Hazard for some ideas.

Yes Allen Epling is the one trying to get everything organized. I am also an AEC in the county. Johnnie has also been a big help in getting us set up. There are a lot of hams around, was just seeing if there may have been some on here that are not very active in the county. Thanks
