Hi Folks,

Have bought, and re-bought, several orders of bnc coax connectors
from Amazon.

They all are quite loose, and am reluctant to use.

Any "trick" that you folks have come up with to have
them seat more securely ?

Thought I'd ask here first before squeezing them
a bit with a vise-grip, etc.

Any brand that is "good" ?

Regards,
Bob

Are they loose on the coax or on the equipment?
Do you have a link to the same brand/type of bnc connector you have bought?

For Ubbe From OP:

Hi,

There have been others too that I've tried.
None seem to fit the way they did "in the old days", snugly.
The way you would expect, and want.

All seem to be really loose.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,
Bob

I too would like to hear any suggestions anyone might have.

I have a Uniden 996XT and the stock BNC antenna fits nice
and snug. But other BNC connectors and adaptors I've tried
are too loose and and likewise negate the antenna altogether.

Any suggestions and tips would be appreciated.

I would hazard a guess that those Cablesonline connector come from some Chinese factory on worn out presses - try Amphenol or Greenpar - you'll pay more but they'll fit better.

BNC and N connectors come in two varieties - 50 ohm and 75 ohm. Externally they appear identical, but the pin diameters are different. The 75 ohm ones are smaller. Thus, a 75 ohm male connector will fit a 50 ohm female connector, but may seem loose. I don't order from Amazon because they mostly don't specify the impedance of the connectors. One of the other responses makes reference to a right-angle video adapter. This would be 75 ohms.

Maybe you're confusing the outer bnc jacket with the inner grounding flaps?
The outher thing that does the mechanical lock always flex but the inner grounding shouldn't.

If you wiggle any connector and you notice any kind of influence to the signal you should scrap it and get another one. I buy 10pcs of the cheap ones (1/10 of the price of the branded ones) and test them and I must scrap 2-3 of them.

its best to get Amphenol like said above , more expensive , but better quality . Try places like Mouser Electronics, DigiKey, Newark Electronics and you will get a quality product.

The antenna wobbled on my pro 95. I put an o ring on the base (bottom) of the female. Snugged it right up.
You could feel the difference when turning the locking ring.

This is on a gps, but same concept to snog a loose bnc antenna.

Bingo - and it appears that the OP posted up info showing these as A/V video connectors, which would be the 75 Ohm style - and would perfectly explain the loose fit.

They're never going to fit better (or work better) than the correct 50 Ohm connector.

I got a pack of Ideal Insite BNC compression fittings from Lowes. Says it fits RG6, RG6Q and RG6 Plenum. I used two of them with some decent standard RG6 cable and they fit quite snug on my 325p2. So snug in fact that I had trouble connecting them the first time. I think they were 9 dollars for a four pack.

The inner grounding ring is the issue

By CAREFULLY spreading them out ever so slightly with a jewelers screwdriver you can easily cure the loose fitting BNC issue
