LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A suspected drunk driver is accused of dragging a state trooper and then fleeing early Thursday morning.

The incident happened after the trooper made contact with the driver of a Jeep at 6th Avenue and Colfax Avenue in Golden around 2 a.m., according to Trooper David Hall. The trooper had stopped the driver on suspicion of DUI.

During the stop, the driver grabbed onto the trooper and dragged him 50 to 100 feet, Hall said. The trooper was able to free himself and return to his patrol car, initiating a chase that reached speeds of 80 mph, according to Hall.

LOCATION: Interplaza West and Highway 40

On 10-09-08 at approximately 2:00 A.M. a Colorado State Trooper made contact with a brown 1987 Jeep Cherokee on Interplaza West near Highway 40.
During the contact, the Trooper suspected the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

On second approach to the vehicle to ask the driver to perform voluntary roadside maneuvers, the suspect attempted to flee in his vehicle. The Trooper was dragged an unknown distance before being able to free himself from the vehicle resulting in minor injuries.

The Trooper was able to return to his vehicle and pursue the suspect vehicle. The Trooper was able to successfully perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) on the suspect vehicle, but the suspect vehicle was able to flee again before other units boxed him in.

The suspect vehicle fled eastbound onto Highway 40 (Colfax Avenue) and lost control of his vehicle near Owens Court. The suspect vehicle ran off the RIGHT side of the roadway before colliding with unoccupied parked vehicles in a used-car parking lot. The vehicle then rolled coming to rest on the drivers side. The suspect had to extricated from the vehicle.

The restrained male Trooper has been identified as Bradley Fox. Trooper Fox has been with the Colorado State Patrol since 1999 and serves in the Golden Troop Office. Trooper Fox was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released. He did not require hospitalization.

The unrestrained male driver of the Jeep has been identified as Jefferey Casey, 35 of Golden, CO. Casey suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by ground ambulance to St. Anthony Central Hospital.

The crash portion of this incident is being investigated by the Lakewood Police Department.

Alcohol and speed are suspected to be contributing factors.

Tactical Vehicle Intervention....never heard that one before. Whats the difference, if any, between that and a PIT?

Also, does anyone have a recording of this?

there's really no difference although we have differnt follow up techniques that I wont get into on here. We were one of the first departments to develope a program to terminate chases by means of taking them out and that's the acronym they came up with
