FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Date: May 24, 2009 Time: 12:30pm
This morning at approximately 7:40am a Colorado State Trooper stopped a silver, 1998 Ford Expedition on southbound I-25 at milepost 157 which is about 6 miles south of Monument Hill. The vehicle was initially contacted for speeding through a construction zone.
During the contact the suspect fled from the trooper who was standing near the vehicle at the time. The trooper pursued the vehicle southbound along the interstate in what is being described as very light traffic.
The suspect lost control of the Expedition near the North Academy Blvd. exit and sideswiped a green Volvo. The suspect vehicle then rolled a number of times ejecting the passenger.
The suspect has been identified as 18 year-old Adrian Garcia from Pueblo. Garcia was transported to Penrose Main with serious injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.
Garcia's passenger has been identified as 18 year-old Mark Anaya, also out of Pueblo. He too was transported to Penrose with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The female driver of the Volvo, 37 year-old Dawn Lissy of Colorado Springs was transported with minor injuries.
The southbound lanes of I-25 remained closed for several hours due to the investigation, but were reopened at about 11:30 this morning.
The incident remains under investigation at this time, but officers have been able to determine that Garcia is wanted on a felony warrant out of Pueblo County. During their investigation troopers also discovered a 9mm handgun in the vehicle.
Charges against the driver are pending at this hour.
