FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Date: 08-28-2009 Time: 8:45 a.m.
On August 27, 2009 at approximately 8:49 p.m., Colorado State Troopers responded to a fatal crash on westbound Highway 119 just east of Weld County Road 7. A blue Magna Bicycle, silver 2006 Hyundai Accent and gold 2001 Dodge Stratus were westbound on Highway 119. The bicycle turned into the right lane of traffic from the right shoulder. The Hyundai was in the right lane and collided with bicycle ejecting the rider. The Dodge traveling in the left lane collided with rider in the roadway.
The bicyclist has been identified as Jeff Cleveland, age 44 of Longmont, Colo. Cleveland sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Weld County Coroner.
The restrained driver of the Hyundai has been identified as Chandler Jeff, age 46 of Longmont, Colo. Jeff sustained no injuries.
The restrained driver of the Dodge has been identified as Luis Molina, age 19 of Dacono, Colo. Molina sustained no injuries.
The crash and subsequent investigation led to a closure of westbound Highway 119 for approximately three hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
Alcohol or drugs are suspected as contributing factors.
Next of kin have been notified.
