...series of back-to-back disturbances will bring a prolonged
period of snow and blowing snow to the northwest and west central
colorado mountains...
A strong upper level jet will carry a series of moist pacific
storms up and over a ridge of high pressure along the west
coast...and across the central rockies sunday through early next
week. This will result in a prolonged period of snowfall for the
northern and central mountains of western colorado...from crested
butte north to steamboat springs.
The heaviest snow will be over the northwest facing slopes of the
park...flattops and elk ranges where 1 to 2 feet of snow will fall
by early tuesday morning. Less snow is expected over the west elk
range with 6 to 12 inches by tuesday morning.
The higher valleys of northwest colorado from craig to steamboat
springs may receive heavy snowfall as well. Snow accumulations of
6 to 12 inches are possible sunday afternoon through late monday.
Anyone planning travel through western colorado this weekend or
early next week should keep up with the latest forecasts. Visit

...winter storm warning in effect from 6 am sunday to 6 am mst
tuesday...
The national weather service in grand junction has issued a
winter storm warning for snow and blowing...which is in effect
from 6 am sunday to 6 am mst tuesday. The winter storm watch is no
longer in effect.
* timing...after a brief spurt of snowfall saturday night...
Snowfall will intensify again early sunday and persist through
monday night.
* snow accumulation...from 1 to 2 feet of snow with higher
drifts...with the highest amounts on northwest-facing slopes.
* winds...from the northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph
sunday through monday...producing areas of blowing and drifting
snow.
* visibility...will be reduced to less than 1/2 mile in snow and
blowing snow.
* impacts...all roads through the northern and central colorado
mountains will become icy and snowpacked...along with periods of
low visibility...causing hazardous winter driving conditions.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow are
expected or occurring. Strong winds and blowing snow are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
