10/12 ~ At 07:17 Castle Rock Firefighters were alerted to multiple reports of a house explosion at 6902 Sulfur Lane. Neighbors reported 6-7 occupants inside and possibly trapped. While companies were going enroute an off-duty South Metro Firefighter arrived on scene and requested a 2nd Alarm & Heavy Rescue. 1 adult female and 4 children had self extricated safely. Battalion Chief 151 approved the resource requested, bringing mutual aid from South Metro, Franktown & Larkspur. First due Quint 155 reported one home completely leveled, assumed command and began rescue mode. Engine 154 laid a supply line to Quint 155 and the aerial was positioned for possible suppression operations. Primary & Secondary Searches of 5 neighboring structures proved negative and Engine 151 cut utilities. The gas meter on the destroyed structure was found under debris and free-flowing. Engine 154, Medic 154 & Medic 151 all began triage, reporting one yellow and four green patients, all were transported to Swedish Medical Center. Castle Rock & South Metro Special Operations personnel started an evaluation of the structure, building department and utility companies were requested. Neighboring homes sustained minor exterior and window damage, residents from as far as Founders Village felt the blast. The family dog was found outside and injured, a family cat was found inside the debris injured that had to be rescued; Animal control transported both.
