02/16 ~ Around 11:30 Aurora Firefighters were dispatched to a possible structure fire at 18064 East Ohio Avenue. Dispatchers received a 911 call with an open line, they heard glass breaking and someone yelling “fire”. While companies were responding several other 911′s came in with callers reporting black smoke coming from the building. First arriving Engine 9 found a two story wood frame multiple dwelling with smoke showing. The crew from 9 advanced an attack line to a first floor unit with smoke showing from the windows. Tower 8 began searches and Engine 5 pulled a back up attack line. With concern that there may be fire on both floors a 2nd Alarm was transmitted. All searches proved negative, the fire was quickly placed under control and declared out in 20 minutes. The additional companies were canceled enroute and the American Red Cross was called to assist 15 adults and 2 children displaced from the building. No injuries were reported and firefighters rescued chickens from the apartment.
